Objective 8: Communicate assessment results to professionals and parents/family members

Being able to communicate assessments results to professionals and parents/family

members is very important as a teacher. This helps me relay significant and critical information

to important individuals in childrens lives. As a professional I will be conducting assessments

on regular basis, involving multiple students, and being able to effectively communicate the

results can help find solutions to help better support the childrens needs. Assessments allows

me to improve as a professional and it is important to keep families and faculty members

involved in the process.

Regarding, communicating results to professionals I have learned how to effectively

write an assessment report. I have learned key components to and important information to

include in reports (psychological or psychoeducational). When writing a report, it is important to

have the childs background information (childs sex, age ethnicity etc.), along with health and

developmental history (medical evaluations, developmental milestones reached, etc.) I have

learned how to communicate observations with families and professionals of childrens

behaviors during an assessment. When communicating observations, it is important to

understand the difference between descriptive statements describing a childs behavior and how

to interpret a childs behavior. It is better to be descriptive about a behavior and then interpret

that behavior. I have learned how to manage complex findings from assessments, and how it is

important to use plain clear language when communicating results. I also learned how to

communicate and write recommendations for children, which is another important factor of

assessment. I learned how to set goals for childrens development, develop reasonable

recommendations that are functional and really beneficial to the child and their families.
I have attached evidence that supports my knowledge of learning this objective, and how

my level of understanding of this has increased. First, I have attached an in-class learning

activity #5. This activity showcases my knowledge of sufficiently communicating assessments

results to parents in given scenarios. In this assignment, I had to pick two cases and describe how

I would communicate the results to the parents. I received a 100% (5 out of 5) on this activity,

but I still needed to improve my responses to the first case I selected. I also attached in-class

activity #6, which was the same as the in-class activity #5 but revised. Here you will see

revisions and edits to my responses from the previous activity. It shows my knowledge of

developing appropriate responses for different situations. I was given feedback from my peers,

and I was able to show how my responses met the criteria for effective communicating. It shows

what part of my response is clear, direct, specific, accurate, and sensitive. I received a 100% on

this activity as well, showing that my knowledge of this objective has increased.
