Virgo is an earthy sign ruled by Mercury, the governor of nervous system. Mercury, the
significator of analytical faculties, is exalted in this sign and Venus, the significator for materialistic
pursuits and comforts, is debilitated. These factors render the Virgos a discriminating nature and
deep sensuality. If Virgo rises as the ascendant, the Ishta Devata would be Lord Vishnu. This sign
rules the waist, abdominal umbilical region, nervous system, small intestine, upper part of large
intestine, appendix and kidneys. If Mercury and Saturn are strong, the Virgos enjoy good health.
Otherwise, they become hypochondriac and are vulnerable to overexertion, nervous breakdown,
appendicitis, constipation, etc. This is the mooltrikona sign of Mercury.

Virgo is a dual, negative, tamasic, vata, female, barren and biped sign and, if Mercury is strong, it
gives the power of analysis and discrimination. Depending on the influences on the ascendant
and/or Mercury, the sign Virgo usually makes their natives communicative, attractive, charming,
prudent, cautious, protective, analytical, dependable, honest, truthful, practical, sincere and
detailed or critical, neurotic, distant, resentful, indecisive and nit pickers with a fault finding
tendency. As Mercury transits in a band of 28 degrees on either side of the Sun, for quite some
time in the year it remains combust and weak. Then it goes to its sign of debilitation once a year
for about a month and goes to infancy and old age about twelve times a year besides coming
under the close influence of Rahu, Ketu and other functional malefic planets in a natal chart. The
usual weakness of Mercury makes Virgo-born people feel insecure in life. They are generally

through speculative investments and endeavors, long life and happy marital relationship if Venus
and Jupiter are strong or even well placed in the chart. Exalted and strong Mercury blesses them
with sharp intellect, business acumen and analytical powers. An exalted and strong Jupiter blesses
them with good education, affluent parents, rich assets and spirituality. An exalted and strong
Venus blesses them with good status, good financial position and happy marital relationship.
Exalted, strong and unafflicting Saturn blesses them with challenging career with success and
anxieties. Similarly, are to be read the results of the planets when they are in their signs of
debilitation causing deterioration in the aspects signified by the weak planets. However, the
significations likely to be promoted when the planets are exalted get a setback when the
concerned planets are weak.

Close conjunction/aspect of functional malefic planet, Saturn, with weak natal positions generates
disputes for the significations ruled by those weak and afflicted natal planets/houses. Close
conjunction/aspect of functional malefic planet, the Sun, with weak natal positions generates
losses and expenses connected with those weak and afflicted natal positions. While a strong Mars
blesses Virgos with good inheritance, its close conjunction/aspect with weak natal positions cause

houses changes the professional pursuits.

Every year during the months of February and March when transit Mercury, Venus and the Sun
generally transit the sign Aquarius the native becomes vulnerable to health problems, disputes
and financial constraints. Similarly, the transit planets in Aries cause obstructions while the transit

Mercury occupies its own mooltrikona sign in the ascendant. Even being exalted, Mercury lacks full
strength as it is combust and in the state of infancy.

The lord of the second house, Venus, is placed in the eleventh house. Venus, though placed in an
auspicious house, becomes weak, as its dispositor, the Moon, is debilitated. Rahu-Ketu axis is
close to the most effective points of the houses occupied and mildly afflicts the houses occupied
and aspected. Rahu closely aspects and mildly afflicts Venus. The weakness and affliction of Venus
told upon the level of status and accumulation of wealth of the native.

Jupiter, the lord of the fourth house, is strong and placed in its own mooltrikona sign, but is away
from the most effective point of the fourth house. In such cases, the strength of Jupiter promotes
the general significations of Jupiter, for example, progeny, disciplined and ethical life, sincerity
and honesty. It does not powerfully influence the significations of the houses aspected by it as it is
quite away from the most effective point of the house of its location. Functional benefic planets,
Mercury, Venus and the Moon, are weak, while Jupiter is in strength. Whenever a mooltrikona sign
rises in the ascendant, the longevity comes into focus. In this nativity, the weakness of Mercury
and close affliction to the ascendant by functional malefic planet, Saturn, is indicative of middle
life span. Had such Mercury been placed in a dusthana, say, the twelfth house, other things
remaining the same, the native would have had a short life span. The native was born in the sub-
period of the functional benefic planet, well-placed and weak Mercury, in the main period of
Saturn. The native also saw the main period of Mercury in life. The native pursued the course of
engineering but due to weakness and affliction to the lord of the second house, ruling status,
could not acquire higher status in life.

Debilitated lord of the eleventh house kept the earnings on lower side. The strong lord of the
fourth house helped the native to acquire a degree in engineering. This Jupiter also blessed the
native with well-behaved sons and domestic happiness. Though due to the weakness of the Moon
and affliction to the ascendant by Saturn there were spells of mental worries to the native, yet he
generally maintained good physical health. As the chart did not indicate full span of life, the native
died of an accident in the fifty-first year of his life.

The sign Virgo rises in the ascendant, whose lord Mercury is placed in the eleventh house. The
functional malefic planet, Mars, closely aspects the most effective points of the ascendant, the
fourth and fifth houses and mildly afflicts the houses occupied and aspected. The extent of
affliction is 25%. The Sun, the lord of the twelfth house, ruling bed comforts and peacefully
enjoying the company of the spouse, is weak due to old-age and is closely afflicted by Ketu. The
extent of affliction is about 50%. Jupiter, the significator for husband and lord of the fourth house
ruling bliss of the marital life, is also weak as it is combust. Saturn closely afflicts the houses
occupied and aspected including the fourth house and the Moon, the lord of the eleventh house.
The weakness of the lord of the fourth house and afflictions to the most effective point of the
fourth house by most malefic planet, Mars, and functional malefic planet Saturn indicate disturbed
and short-lived marital bliss. The lady lost her husband after two and a half years of marriage in
the sub-period of the combust Jupiter.

The close affliction of various houses and the Sun and the Moon by functional malefic planets, is
clearly indicative of tragic happenings in life. The weak and afflicted fourth house also indicates
the uncomfortable position of the parents.

Some people hold the view that those who prescribe astral-remedial measures are incompetent to
make predictions. We can only pity at their lack of power to understand. The afflictions and
weaknesses identified with the help of the Systems' Approach clearly indicate the picture as in this
case and there cannot be two opinions. The only opinion will be suffering. But such people forget
and disregard Maharishi Parashara, who propounded the theory of remedial measures. The
preventive remedial measures provide relief from sufferings, while remedial measures after some

The placement of the Moon in the ninth house shows relationship between the source of income
and father. The native, in such cases, derives benefit from his/her own father. The lord of the
house of status, though in the state of old-age, is well-placed in the ninth house. This is indicative
of native acquiring position in life through the help and assistance of father. The placement of the
lord of the ascendant is also indicative of earnings by self-effort.

Mercury, when strong, makes a person analytical in approach and its weakness robs the person of
that power. In this case, Mercury and Jupiter, ruling the ascendant and the fourth house, are
combust. The native had higher education in non-analytical subjects. The weak Jupiter and the
severely afflicted and badly placed Venus denied the timely marital bliss to the native. Regarding
the functional malefic planets, Ketu afflicts Venus, Saturn does not form any close
conjunction/aspect in the chart, the Sun afflicts Mercury and Jupiter, and Mars afflicts the weak
Jupiter and the houses occupied and aspected closely.

Here the marriage was delayed and denied up to the age of 47 years due to the factors elaborated
earlier. However, performance of remedial measures generated circumstances for marriage but,
because of the weak Mercury, the native erred in judgment and agreed for marriage with a person
whose legal divorce for an earlier marriage was pending in the court of law. The celebration of the
marriage was delayed for some more years.

The good placement of the Moon in the chart has given the native self-earned income and benefits
from parents. The influence of Jupiter, the planet signifying education and knowledge, has given
the profession of a teacher to the native.

The native has been advised strict observance of remedial measures for Rahu, Ketu, the Sun and
Mars for success in the delayed marriage. Here again, the only conclusion from weak and afflicted
Jupiter and Venus and weak and afflicting Mars and the Sun, without the help of astral remedies,

This is a very peculiar chart, indeed. Due to the influence of the Sun on the weak lord of the
second house, the native wanted to go in for administrative services, while astrological factors
indicate that the native can work in an organization dealing with research or analysis. Mercury is
placed in the fifth house in close conjunction with debilitated but functional benefic planet, Jupiter,
but is weak as it is afflicted by the Rahu-Ketu axis. Jupiter is debilitated and also closely afflicted
by the Rahu-Ketu axis. In spite of his attaining a academic postgraduate degree in economics, the
native could not find a job. First his direction for pursuing an administrative career was wrong as a
comparatively strong Mercury indicated success in an analytical job, and secondly, when he got
selected for some foreign fellowship in the field of research, he could not go because of paucity of
funds due to the weak and afflicted Venus. Let us see the rest of the planets in the chart. Venus
(ruling the house of status), Mars and Saturn are combust. Besides, Venus is additionally weak as

functional malefic planet, Mars, are closely afflicting the most effective point of the ascendant and
the houses aspected. The fourth lord is placed in the third house in the state of infancy and the
most effective point of the third house is exactly aspected by Ketu. The lord of the second house,
Venus, is weak as it is placed in the twelfth house and has a weak dispositor. The lord of the
eleventh house, the Moon, is weak as it is badly placed in the chart, has a weak dispositor and the
most effective point of its mooltrikona sign is exactly afflicted by Ketu. The functional malefic
planet, Saturn, is afflicting the houses occupied and aspected by it. The ascendant and its lord are
having severe afflictions and are devoid of a benefic influence.

The marital life of the native remained totally inharmonious. The native was so much harassed in
life that she tried to commit suicide in the main period of Saturn (a functional malefic) and sub-
period of the Sun (another functional malefic afflicting the lord of the ascendant closely). All the
functional benefic planets have been rendered helpless due to weakness, afflictions and bad

malefic aspect. The combust Venus is exactly afflicted by the Sun but having a close favorable
aspect from Jupiter. The eighth lord's placement in the eighth house has provided strength to the
eighth house for conferring substantial inheritance on the native. The position of the fourth lord in
the ninth house shows that the parents, property and education play a very important part in the
life of the native. Benefic Jupiter's placement in the trine is very strategic as it widely aspects the
ascendant, the third house and the fifth house, and closely aspects the Sun and Venus, lord of the

Jupiter, and the close aspect of Rahu to the Moon. Jupiter is weak as it is in its sign of debilitation
in the navamsa. The lord of the eleventh house, the Moon, is in the eighth house and closely
afflicted by Rahu. There is an exchange of houses by Mars and the Moon in the nativity. This
relationship of the eighth lord with the lord of the eleventh house is indicative of income from
foreign lands.

The weakness and affliction of the Moon is indicative of undesirable behavior of friends and
unfavorable fluctuations in income levels. The strong and unafflicted Mercury made the native an
engineer, MBA, and highly analytical in approach. The weakness of Jupiter and Venus were
responsible for lack of mental peace in the matters of profession and relationships. During the
main period of Mars, the native served in a foreign country and earned wealth. The sub-period of
Jupiter in the main period of Rahu brought the native back to his native place. Rahu's affliction to
