The human eye is something that plays a large role the human beings daily life. If the eyes are
not taken care of properly every day vision can begin to take a downward spiral. Yearly checkup and
examinations of the eye can help with early detection of health issues. Due to many fascination of eye, I
have chosen the study of eyes as my future occupation. Its because of the eyes many important roles
and complexities that people should educate themselves in the care and understanding of the eyes.
The first article that I choose, conducted a study on humans preference in eye color in terms of
attraction. Although eye color does not make a difference in ones vison, a lot can be interpreted. For
example, blue eyes can be linked to alcohol abuse, shyness and even a high tolerance for pain. The
article Human Commercial Models Eye Color Shows Negative Frequency- Department Selection, took
a sample of 1,600 models from Brazil and the United Kingdom and compared their eye color to the
average eye color of the country. The results found that on average people are attracted to eye color
that is not common. For example they found that the general public of Brazil was interested in non-
brown eyes when the average population was made up of 70% of brown eyes. Although these findings
are strong they do not directly concluded that your mate will always have the rare eye color. Another
area of concern when reading this is that some people are getting into colored contacts which throws a
curve ball at this whole study because nothing becomes linked to ones appearing eye color.
The next area of study had to do herbal supplements that work as a buffer for people with dry
eye syndrome. Dry eye syndrome is when ones eye ball does not produce enough tears. When ones
eye begins to dry out, it results in blurry vison, burning, or discomfort on a daily basis. The current
solution to this problem is to use artificial tears which does can only help the eyes for a short period of
time. The studies found in this article used Ferulic acid as a preservative and kaempferol to solve the
problem of dry eye. Kaempferol is commonly used in Chinese medicine in which the researchers got
their idea from. The results found that the solution helped to thicken cornea to get rid of and prevent
dry eye.
The next area of next study had to do with a surgical procedure that mostly everyone will
undergo at some point in their life called cataract surgery. This surgery is done to replace the lens in
your eye to correct vision. This study was taken to get understanding of who get cataract surgery, what
they know about it and what keeps the patents from getting it. The study concluded that the general
public is uneducated about cataract surgery which leads to further damage of their eyes.
The last study was done on eyelid conjunctivitis. The study was run on two girls who had little
pimple like bumps on their eyelid that a few optometrist had overlooked. The bumps were linked to a
burning feeling, blurry vision, HIV and a handful of other issues linked with the immune system. The
study wasnt completed because the virus has tendencys to reappear but the doctors believed that they
found the cure based on particular immunoglobulins found in the patients blood system. The younger
girl was able to clear up the conjunctivitis quicker than the older women because the doctors believed
that she was still holding immunoglobulin past down from her mother.
In conclusion, eyes are very important to the everyday functions and because of this, I want to
make sure everyone has equal opportunities to find good health care. With todays ever changing
importance in vison people are always going to need to see better. Whether you are only interested in
eyes for color, conjunctivitis, dry eye, or cataract surgery, the education level of eyes needs to be
expanded in order to maintain and improve ones vision and personal health.
