Preface
The gaming world has exploded in such
a way some people never thought would
have been possible. There are huge
conventions celebrating the world of
gaming, where people can choose to
dress as some of their favorite
characters.
Its quite amazing how far gaming has
come.
Not only has there been incredible leaps
in the industry, but the graphics have
reached outstanding levels. Weve had
the opportunity to witness the amazing
world of virtual reality, and thats only
the beginning. We started with graphics
that seem so cheesy today (but thats why
they are amazing) to graphics that just
seem so real.
We have experienced mind-blowing
stories that we can barely even
understand and we really have to sit and
analyze the story to figure out what
exactly happened (such as Bioshock
Infinite). We have seen games made by
TaleTell that have interactive game play
which makes it feel more realistic.
Gaming has exploded over the last
decade, and its not stopping any time
soon. With huge games that have come
out in the past five years like Mass
Effect, Skyrim, Bioshock and plenty of
other outstanding games, its
understandable why its become so
popular. Gaming has not only exploded
in their consoles, but cosplay has
become huge also.

Many people enjoy dressing up as their

favorites characters and pretending to be
them for a day. This is also a chance for
artistic people to express themselves. So
many people come up with amazing idea
to combining characters, or creating
their own twist. People are now able to
get together to celebrate and converse
about all these phenomenal games that
has come out since the start. There have
been many favorites that will always be
remembered. This industry has reached
out to people in so many different ways.

According to a report that was from

market researcher SuperData Research,
games have generated $91 billion
worldwide during 2016.
Mobile games was the largest at $41
billion, following that was $26 billion
for retail games and $19 billion for
games that are free to play online. The
newer categories such as e-sports,
virtual reality, and gaming video content
were not much of that amount, but
theyre growing quick and should hold
promise during 2017.
Mobile gaming was being driven by
blockbuster hits like Clash Royale and
Pokemon Go. The mobile games market
is maturing and is now more closely
resembling traditional games publishing,
which requires a high production value
and marketing spending. Monster Strike
was the number one mobile game in
2016, with a revenue of $1.3 billion.
Meanwhile, the first year of virtual
reality wasn't quite as steady, especially
for the manufacturers of dedicated
hardware. Having a high price point, an
absence of a strong content line-up, and
the difficulties with properly delivering
through retail expectations of the Oculus
Rift. SuperData expects there will be
more experienced hardware
manufacturing like HTC and Sony to take
the lead in 2017. Still, Virtual Reality
still grew to $2.7 billion during 2016.
Gaming videos reached $4.4 billion,
which was up 34 percent.
The E-sports market made $892 million
in revenue. Even though its small, it has
turned into the focal points for
publishers, advertisers, and TV
executives.
Consumers have started to increase in
downloading games directly to their
consoles, $6.6 billion dollars was spent
on digital downloads during 2016. This
is allowing publishers to generate
revenue through the sales of micro-
transactions, add-on content, and
expansion packs.
PC gaming is continuing to do well,
going up 6.7 percent and earning $34
billion during 2016. This is driven
largely by the free to pay online titles
and downloaded games. League of
Legends together with newcomers like
Overwatch are driving the growth in PC
games.
Its amazing to see how much gaming has
grown over the years. Not many people
used to play them, and it used to be
looked down upon if you played video
games. People would say that is was a
waste of time, but it wasnt and now it
definitely isnt!
Introduction
Now is the perfect time to get into any
kind of work inside the gaming industry.
You can do anything from being a
programmer, game designer, or animator.
But if you dont want to be apart of those
fields, you can start your own gaming
channel. You can make yourself known
in the gaming world by the skill you
have earned over years of playing video
games.

Several people have been successful by

creating their own unique channel and
you can do the same. People such as
Markiplier, and PewDiePie have started
amazing gaming channels and are loved
by a lot of followers. They have created
unique channels with their personality
and gaming tips. If your dream is to get
paid to play video games, that is
something thats possible today. You can
make your channel into any you
specialize it. Theres even an older lady
who lives in Virginia who mostly plays
Skyrim because its her favorite game
and she has been playing video games
since the 90s. Anything is possible in the
gaming world, and video games has
shown us that. If you have that same
attitude you can go far in this business. If
you are willing to put in the dedication
and hard work, then you will have many
followers and you will be recognized
for your gaming skills. But before we
can go over what you need to do to have
this success in the gaming world, let's
pump some knowledge into your brain
about some gaming history. It will be
good to know this information just
because if you want a career in gaming,
you need to know its roots.
Chapter 1: The History of Gaming

Having its commercial birth during the

1950s as a technological oddity at a
science fair, gaming has turned into one
of the most profitable entertainment
industries in the world.
The recent boom of mobile technology
has revolutionized the industry and has
opened doors to a new generation of
gamers. Gaming has even become so
integrated with modern popular culture
that grandmas know what Angry Birds
is. There is more than 42 percent of
Americans who are gamers and four out
of five U.S households own a console.

During The Early Years

The first recognized example of a game

machine was made by Dr. Edward Uhler
Condon at the New York Worlds fair
during 1940. The game was based on the
ancient mathematical game of Nim. This
game was played by around 50,000
people throughout the six months it was
on display. The computer was reported
winning more than 90 percent of the
games.

But the first game system that was

designed from commercial home use
was not made until around three decades
later. This is when Ralph Baer and his
team released the prototype for the
Brown Box, in the year of 1967.

The Brown Box was a vacuum tube-

circuit that has the ability to be
connected to a TV set and allowed two
users to control cubes that would chase
each other on the screen. The Brown
Box was able to be programmed to
play a variety of games that included
checkers, ping pong and four sports
games. There was added accessories
that included a special attachment that
was used for a golf putting game, and a
light-gun that was for a target shooting
game. That technology was advanced for
this time.

The Brown Box was licensed to the

company Magnavox. Which later
released the system and called it the
Magnavox Odyssey during the year of
1972. It was preceded Atari by a couple
of months, which is usually mistaken as
the first game console.

Between August 1972 and 1975, around

the time Magnovox was discontinued,
around 300,000 consoles were bought.
Poor sales were being blamed on
mismanaged in-store marketing and the
fact that gaming at home was a alien
concept to the average American at that
time.

However mismanaged it could have

been, this birthed the digital gaming we
have come to love today.

Next on the record was Atari and

Arcade Gaming

Taito and Sega were the first companies

that caught the publics interest in arcade
gaming when the electro-mechanical
games Periscope and Crown Special
Soccer and were released in 1966 and
1967. During the year of 1972, Atari
(founded by Nolan Bushnell) turned into
the first gaming company that actually set
the benchmark for a large-scale gaming
community.

Atari was not only responsible for

developing their games in-house, but
they also created a blooming new
industry around the arcade. During the
year of 1972, arcade games retailed
$1,095. Atari started to sell the first real
electronic video game Pong. Arcade
game machines started showing up in
bars, shopping malls, and bowling alleys
around the world. Tech-heads were
realizing they were onto something big,
between the years 1972 to 1985, more
than 15 companies had started to
develop video games for the ever-
expanding market.

The Roots of Multiplayer

During the late 1970s, several chains of

restaurants around the U.S were starting
to install video games so they could
capitalize on the new hot craze. The kind
of nature the games had would spark
competition among the players. They
would record their high scores with their
initials and were determined to keep
their spot at the top of the list. At this
point, multiplayer games were limited to
players competing on the same screen.

The first game that was made so players

could compete on separate screens was
released in 1973, and was known as
Empire. This was a strategic turn-
based game that was for up to 8 players.
The game was created for the PLATO
(Programmed Logic for Automatic
Teaching Operation) network system.
This program was the fist generalized
computer-based teaching systems. It was
originally made by the University of
Illinois and was later taken over by
Control Data (CDC), they created the
machines on which the system ran.

The usage logs from the PLATO system

recorded that users spent around
300,000 hours playing Empire between
the years of 1978 and 1985. Jim Bowery
released Spasim for PLATO, it was a
32-player space shooter, which is
regarded as being the first example of a
3D multiplayer game. Access to PLATO
was limited to large organizations such
as universities. This program represents
one of the first steps on the technological
road to the Internet, and the online
multiplayer gaming we know today.

During that time, gaming was popular

with the younger generations, and was an
activity that was shared to compete for
high-scored in arcades. Even though,
most people wouldnt have considered
American households having game
systems as a probable reality.

How Home Gaming Became Reality

In the addition to gaming consoles

becoming huge in commercial centers
and chain restaurants in the U.S, the
early 1970 was able to see the advent of
personal computers and mass-produced
gaming consoles becoming a reality.
There were some technological
advancements, such as Intels invention
of the worlds first microprocessor,
which led to the making of games such
as Gunfight in the year of 1975. This
was the first example of a multiplayer
human-to-human combat shooter.

While being far from Call of Duty,

Gunfight was a huge deal when it made
its way to arcades. The game displayed
a new style of gameplay that used one
joystick to control movement and
another that was shooting direction, this
was something that was never seen
before.
In the year of 1977, Atari had released
the Atari VCS ( that was later known as
the Atari 2600), but the sales were slow.
During the first year 250,000 machines
were sold, then 550,00 in the year of
1978. This was well below the figures
that were expected. The low sells were
blamed on the fact that Americans were
still getting used to the idea of color TVs
in the home. The consoles were on the
pricey side and people were getting
tired of Pong, Ataris most popular
game.

When the Atari VCS was released, it

was only designed to play 10 simple
challenge games, such out Tank, Pong
and Outlaw. But, the console included an
external ROM slot where game
cartridges were able to be plugged in.
This potential was quickly found by
programmers around the world, and they
created games that were far
outperforming the consoles original
design.
The creation of the microprocessor also
led to the release of Space Invaders for
the Atari VCS during the year 1980. This
signified a new era of gaming, and the
sales for Atari 2600 sales shot up to 2
million units in the year of 1980.

While the home and arcade gaming

boomed, so did the development of the
gaming community. The late 1970s and
early 1980s witnessed the release of
magazines such as Creative Computing
(1974), Computer Gaming World
(1981), and Computer and Video Games
(1981). These magazines were able to
create a sense of community, and offered
a channel where gamers could engage
with each other.

Designing Games For Computers

The boom that was caused by Space
Invaders witnessed a huge number or
new consoles and companies pop up,
this resulted in a period of market
saturation. There were too many gaming
consoles, and not enough games that
were interesting enough for people to
really engage in. This eventually led to
the 1983 North American video games
crash. This caused some huge losses,
and a ton of unpopular, poor-quality
games that are not recognized today. The
gaming industry was in a desperate need
for some change.

Around the same time that consoles were

starting to get bad press, home
computers such as the Commodore 64,
Commodore Vic-20 and the Apple II
started to gain popularity. These new
home computers were affordable for the
average American, retailing about $300
during the 1980s. They were being
advertised as the sensible option for
the family.

These computers had a more powerful

processor than the previous generation
of consoles had. This opened the door to
have a new level of gaming, with more
complicated, less linear games.
Technology was also offered for gamers
so they could make their own games
with BASIC code. Bill Gates even
designed a game that was called Donkey
(this was a simple game that involved
avoiding donkeys on a highway while
driving a sports car). The game was
brought back to an IOS app back in the
year of 2012.

At the time, the game was described as

embarrassing and crude by rivals at
Apple, but Gates included the game to
help inspire users to make their own
games and programs using the integrated
BASIC code. Magazines such as Gaming
World and Computers and Video Games
provided BASIC source code for utility
programs and games, which can actually
be typed into early PCs. Programs,
games and readers code submissions
were accepted and shared.

In addition to giving people the means to

make their own game by using codes,
early computers also created the
opportunity for multiplayer gaming. This
was a key milestone for the evolution of
the gaming community. The early
computers such as Macintosh, and some
consoles such as the Atari ST, were
allowing users to connect their devices
with other players as early at the late
1980s. During 1987, MidiMaze was
released on the Atari ST and included a
function that could link up 16 consoles
by connecting one computers MIDI-
OUT port to the next computers MIDI-
IN port.

Many users reported that having more

than four players at a time would slow
down the game dramatically and would
make it unstable. This later led to the
idea of deathmatch, which became
popular alongside with the release of
Doom in the year of 1993 and is
currently one of the most popular games
today.

One of the great revolutions came for

gaming when LAN networks, and later
the Internet, opened up multiplayer
gaming. Multiplayer gaming over
networks took off when Pathway to
Darkness was released in 1993, and the
LAN Party was born into existence.
LAN gaming got more popularity when it
released Marathon on the Macintosh in
the year of 1994. They become even
more popular when they released the
first-person multiplayer shooter Quake
that hit the stores in the year of 1996. At
that point, Windows 95 was released
and affordable Ethernet cards brought
networking to the Windows PC, there
was more expanding in the popularity of
multiplayer LAN games.

Multiplayer gaming was able to take the

gaming community to another level
because it allowed fans to compete and
interact with each other from different
computers, which was able to improve
the social aspect of gaming. This was a
huge step to set the stage for a large-
scale interactive gaming network that
modern gamers still currently enjoy. On
the date of April 30th 1993, CERN put
the World Wide Web software into
public domain. However, it would be
years before the Internet was going to be
powerful enough to accommodate the
gaming we know today.
The Modern Age of Gaming
Thanks to the early 2000s, Internet
capabilities have grown and computer
processor technology has improved at a
very fast rate. Its growing so fast that
every new batch of games, graphics and
consoles will blow the previous
generation out of the water. The servers,
and cost of technology and Internet has
dropped so low that Internet at lightning
speed is more accessible and it's
commonplace. 3.2 billion people around
the Earth have access to the Internet. It
was stated by ESA Computer and video
games industry for their report for 2015,
that at least 1.5 billion people with
Internet access play video games.

Online storefronts such as Wii Shop

Channel and Xbox Live Marketplace
have completely changed the way people
communicate and interact with others,
buy games, update software. Networking
services such as Sonys PSN have also
helped online multiplayer gaming reach
new heights that were unbelievable.
Technology has allowed millions
through out the world enjoy gaming as a
shared activity. The recent ESA gaming
report has shown that 53 percent of
gamers who play frequently feel that
their hobby help them connect with
friends, and 45 percent of them use
gaming as a way to spend quality time
with their family.

By the time the Xbox 360 was released,

online multiplayer gaming was a
fundamental part of the experience,
especially after games such as Call Of
Duty Modern Warfare were released.
Nowadays, several games have an
online component that improve the
gameplay experience and interactivity,
this often made the players offline game
objectives very important.

As online first-person shooter games

started to be more popular, gaming
clans started to emerge around the
world. A guild, faction or clan is a group
of video gamers that are organized that
play together regularly in multiplayer
games. These games can range in groups
of just a few friends or to a 4,000 person
organization that had a broad range of
goals structures, and members. There are
multiple online platforms that exist
where clans are rated against each other
and they can organize meet-ups online
and battles.

Gaming moved toward mobile

Since smartphone and app stores hit the
market in the year of 2007, gaming went
under another rapid evolution that
changed not only the way people can
play games, but brought gaming into the
mainstream pop culture in way that has
never been done before. The rapid
developments we have had in mobile
technology over the last decade created
an explosion in mobile gaming.

That huge shift inside the gaming

industry toward mobile, has not only
widened the gaming demographics, but it
has also pushed gaming to the forefront
of attention from the media. Its just like
during early gaming when fans were
joining niche forums. The users from
today have rallied around mobile
gaming, the Internet, social media, and
magazines are full of commentaries of
industry gossip and new games. As
always, forums and gamers blogs are
being filled with new game tips, and
sites like Ars Technica, Macworld and
TouchArcade are pushing games from
lesser-known developers, as well as
gaming companies that are traditional.

The gaming industry used to be

monopolized by a handful of companies,
but during the recent years, companies
such as Google and Apple have been
sneaking their way up the ranks because
of their games sales earning from their
app stores. The time-killing nature of the
mobile app gaming is attractive to a lot
of people. Even basic games like Angry
Birds made Rovi $200 million in the
year of 2012 alone, and the game broke
two billion downloads in the year of
2014.

Even the more complex mass

multiplayer mobile games like Clash of
Clans are bringing in large number each
year. There has been a connection for
million of players around the world
through their mobile device or League of
Legends on the PC.
The Future of Gaming
The exciting move to mobile technology
has defined the recent chapter of gaming,
but while on-the-move gaming is suited
well for the busy lives of millennials,
gaming on a mobile device has its
limitations. Phone screens can be small,
and the internal memory and processor
speeds on the majority of cellphones
will limit the gameplay possibilities.
According to an article that was recently
done by VentureBeat, mobile gaming has
already witnessed its first slump. The
revenue growth has slowed, and the
distribution and business cost has riven
dramatically over the last few years.

Unfortunately mobile gaming has almost

killed hand-held gaming devices, but
consoles have still been blooming. Each
new generation of console is welcoming
a new era of capabilities and technology.
Two industries that have a huge change
to play a key role in the future of gaming
are artificial intelligence technology and
virtual reality.
The Virtual reality (VR) company
Oculus was purchased by Facebook in
the year of 2014, and they released the
Rift headset in the year of 2016. The
headset appears to lean perfectly toward
use inside the video game industry, and
allows gamers to live inside an
immersive, interactive world.

There has been so many advancements

over the last few years inside the world
of language-processing artificial
intelligence. During 2014, Google
purchased Deep mind; in 2016 IBM
purchased AlchemyAPI, a leading
provided for deep-learning technology;
during October in 2015, Apple made
two AI acquisitions in less than seven
days. Two of the fields that are being
developed are accuracy for voice
recognition technology and an open-
ended dialogue with computers.

This kind of advance could trigger an

outstanding new chapter for gaming.
Especially if they could combine it with
VR, they could allow people to interact
with characters inside the sames. They
could respond to commands and
questions, with seemingly natural and
intelligent responses. Even in the world
of first-person shooters, strategy games
and sports games, people would be able
to effectively command the computer to
complete in-games tasks. The computer
could understand commands through a
headset because of advances in voice
recognition accuracy.

If the kind of changes weve seen over

the last decade are anything to go by, it
seems that gaming in 2025 could almost
be unrecognizable to how it is today.
Even though Angry Birds has been a
household favorite since it was released
in 2011, its not very likely that it will
be remembered as fondly as Pong or
Space Invaders.

Through out the progression of gaming,

we have seen multiple trends grown, and
then be replaced by newer technology.
But some of us still enjoy the good
oldies. The next chapter for gaming is
not clear, but whatever is going to
happen, it will sure be entertaining.
Chapter 2: Make Money Gaming

Now that we have you all pumped on

some amazing information about how
gaming really started and exploded, lets
now go over how you can make some
money through the gaming industry.

First thing youll need to have is up to

date consoles. If you want people to
notice you at a faster pace you need to
play newer games. People are going to
want tips and tricks so they can get the
full experience of the game. Even though
newer consoles have been coming out
over the past decade, some people are
still new to playing video games. Some
of us have enjoyed playing games all
through out our childhoods, but some
people didnt start playing games until
maybe their teenage or adult years. But it
doesnt matter how long youve been
playing video games, anyone can join in
on this community at any time. Its okay
if you want to play older games also,
dedicated gamers still play the classics,
and any new information is always
useful.
Even a walkthrough thats fun always
helps in getting more views. But mainly
sticking to new games will be key in
getting noticed.

If you prefer PC over console, you can

play new games on PC. Thanks to steam,
we have the ability to play any games on
the PC, as long as you have the right
computer for it. People will not want to
watch videos that have bad quality, they
will want videos with high definition.
There are plenty of outstanding desktops
that you can get that will give you the
best gaming experience, and your fans
too. It will all depend on what you want,
and what you are willing to spend. Some
of the best computers will run you
between $1,000-$2,5000. But thankfully
there are cheaper options that will run
you under $500. If you want to start with
something cheaper when you start out but
still have amazing quality, thats just
fine. When you are making more money
off your channel, youll be able to buy
the computer of your dreams.
You will always need to know how to
save money when you can. Its great to
have the new video games or new
consoles, but they can be expensive.
Plus if you use PC or game online you're
also paying extra a month for Internet.

We can pay hundreds of dollars for a

gaming PC, Playstation, or Xbox and
also whatever monitor or TV we want to
pair with them. We could want extra
controllers, maybe a nice LED keyboard
with a gaming mouse, this causes use to
have lighter wallets.
Considering how expensive hardware
can be, youll want to save as much as
you can on your video games and after
that we will be going over some cheaper
ways you can buy consoles also.
Thankfully, there are quite a few ways
for you to get video games without
breaking your bank.
Whether you choose to game on consoles
or PC, you will be able to save money.
These tricks will help you not have to
throw down $60 every time you need to
get a new game.
Try renting games instead of buying
them. You can buy the game after the
prices drop, but getting the first go on the
game and getting your videos out first
will be crucial. People are going to be
looking for information as they are
playing the video game. So if you have a
steady walkthrough, people are going to
find it when they look it up.
Plus if you are not really interested in
keeping the game after you finish it, you
can just send it right back. Why spend a
lot of money on a new game if you are
just playing it to put videos? If your
video have some reviewing, if you dont
like the game you dont have to try and
sell it, you can just get rid of it. Steam is
another place to check out for cheaper
video games. They started recently
allowing PC gamers to try out game by
offering returns on games that you have
played for less than two hours and have
owned for less than 14 days.
You can try buying games in bundles if
you can. It can seem like buying more at
once may be a better way to spend
money, but if you are going to buy them
anyway, might as well bundle them.
Several game publishers will offer
premium bundles during the launch of the
game that can get you all the DLCs when
it goes live. But keep in mind that going
for a bundle isnt going to save you as
much money if you pre-ordered the
launch. As an alternative, looking for
discounted bundles like Humble Bundles
or the bundles you will often find on
Steam. You will most likely find plenty
of them during special sales events.
Definitely try to take advantage of
special programs. If you are still
building your collection outside of
games that you use for your videos, or
just want a large selection of games for
your videos, you should consider special
programs. GameStop has their Power Up
Rewards, and Best Buy has its Gamer
Club Unlocked. You have to pay to
enroll in these programs, but that can be
worth it if you buy games frequently
from these stores. Other stores could
have similar programs, so take a look
around and inquire at your favorite store
you go to for buying games.
If you are choosing to use PlayStation or
Xbox games, you should take a look into
Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus.
You can pay monthly or annually for
your subscription and they give you a
handful of free and discounted games
every month. They may offer things at
times that you dont want, but other times
they will, but by the end of the year you
should find the value you are getting
from the free games that will exceed the
cost of the subscription. Also for Xbox,
they have Xbox Live rewards, which
gives you the opportunity to rack up
points so you can spend them on things
that are in the Xbox Store.
PC gaming is a good way to go to save
money on gaming. Video game
consoles have their own advantages,
but saving money on games is not one
of them. PC gamers have more
opportunities to finding cheap option
to get a game during a Beta or Alpha
stage. In addition, the savings PC
gamers are able to find on Steam are
hard to match on consoles. They also
offer awesome free games that you can
play when you are just wanting
something fun to play. While consoles
can get some free games, PCs got
more of them.
You can take a look to see if there is
any other better deals on different
formats. If you have to buy all of your
games in physical copies of getting the
digital download, you might be
closing your door to some savings.
Just because a digital copy and a hard
copy are the same game, it wont mean
they are going to be the same price.
You are obviously not going to find a
used copy of a digital game. On
occasion, you can find different sale
prices between the two formats new
also, so if you are willing to have
some flexibility, you could save some
money. It won't always be one format
that beats the other, so take a look at
both sides whenever youre trying to
buy a game.

You can even try buying games online,

eStarland is a large online retailer. They
sell everything from new released titles,
pre-orders for future releases, and retro
classics (they also sell the hardware
needed to run them on). Their prices are
very competitive, especially since there
are huge used game retailers you might
already have in your neighborhood. They
are also a well-loved community for
offering good prices to buyers and credit
or cashed to people who have old games
or consoles that want to trade in. They
will even reimburse your shipping for
the trade-in you send. If you are able to
be a local at their Virginia store, they
open the back room every weekend for
events, tournaments and convention-style
person-to-person showroom. This is
where you will be able to find all kinds
of gems that are directly from other
video game fans and collectors.
Surprisingly, they also host special
event, and even if youre across the
world. You can still take part in the
bargains that they have available in their
online store or when you're trading
items. The company even has customer
service and sales that work with
customers all around the world.
And of course, we cannot forget about
Amazon. The kind of interface they have
might not be the easiest when it comes to
looking for a specific used games and
console, but they do have them for sale
with individual sellers and Amazon
Merchants. They are more than happy to
offer you great discounts over the same
products even new. And best of all, they
are usually listed alongside the new
item, so its not challenging to find a
used version of a game/console if youre
looking for something in particular.
Besides, since its Amazing, you can be
fairly certain to find just about anything
you are looking for, from any platform.
Plus, it doesnt hurt that Amazon is a
good place to sell your used stuff also.
Chapter 3: Becoming a respected
Gamer inside the Industry
If you want to do videos on Twitch or
YouTube, you have to know what you
are talking about. People are not going to
want to follow someone if they are just
funny. You have to know how to play the
video game, and it would be useful to
know information about the game also.
Such as knowing the background and
little tricks to the game (you usually
learn those while playing the game).
If you are planning to do game tutorials
and teach people how to play the game,
you HAVE to take it seriously and teach
people right. Gaming is something that is
serious for a lot of people, and people
will not want to follow you if you dont
take it as seriously. The more you know
what your doing, more people will
recognize and respect that.
If you are wanting to set yourself up as
an authority in your gaming niche,
people are going to come back to watch
your play-throughs, reviews and
tutorials. This is going to mean staying
up to date on gaming news and also
talking about the latest events, trends,
and other industry news in your gaming
videos. Make sure to keep an eye on the
latest in regards to the gaming world,
and do not hesitate to talk about that in
your videos so you can talk about
relevant topics. You will gain more
authority as a leader in the space, and
people will continue to come back to see
what you have to say and hear you give
your own take on the gaming industry.
You are going to want to connect to your
audience. Talk about new games, talk
about things that could irritate you about
the game. You can even talk about other
games that you love, and ask for peoples
responds in comments below. Engage
with your community, you will win them
over by showing that you care. Make the
viewer interaction an important priority.
When you make videos on Twitch or
YouTube, dont just upload them. Make
it interacting with your viewers. You can
start by adding calls to action at the ends
of your video. Ask your viewers to
leave a comment about their thoughts on
your video, and actually take time to
respond to as many you can. Dont make
them one word replies, put some effort
into it and take the time to respond to
some. All of your followers will know
that you dont have the time to chat with
all of them, but if you do reach out they
will notice, and that will keep your
followers and could bring you new ones.
Engaging with your followers will
ensure long time success. Plus, we
would be nothing without our fans, why
not appreciate them and talk to them?
Be credible. Dont give out any wrong
information, make sure what you're
saying is accurate. If you are giving out
tips to your followers make sure it will
actually help. Be authentic, genuine and
real. People can tell when someone is
not being sincere, and this will make you
lose followers. Be yourself, people love
that.
How you can start your own Gaming
Channel
Now let's discuss how you can start your
own gaming channel. You have the
choice to either start on YouTube, or
Twitch. You will need to decide which
you want to be your main focus.
How to Start a Gaming Channel on
YouTube
In recent years, gaming videos have
become very popular, especially on
YouTube. Personalities like PewDiePie,
Achievement Hunter, and Markiplier
have inspired amateurs, fans and even
Youtubers of other genres to make their
own gaming channels.
But we all know how its not exactly
easy to get your channel off the ground.
Here are five tips you can use to start a
YouTube gaming channel.
Chapter 4: The Gaming Setup -
Getting the equipment
This is a no-brainer, but if you're going
to record playthroughs then you are
going to need the right kit.
If you are choosing to game on a
console, hardware such as a game
capture device will be needed to record
from your console straight onto your
computer. These are going to be
available from online retailers such as
Amazing, and they can range anywhere
from 60 to 185 dollars. The price will
be dependent on how high of quality you
will want to record with. Its easy and
straightforward to install, even your
audio can usually be recorded from the
game capture program.
If you are planning to invest some money
into your gaming account, it will
definitely be worth picking up a
microphone. If you use the microphone
built-in to your laptop or webcam it will
sound pretty low-quality against the
audio of your video game. You can buy a
free-standing podcast mic that are
affordable and it will make your
commentary more engaging.
If you are wanting to film yourself while
playing, you wont need a fancy
expensive video camera at the start. But
you will need to get familiar with some
decent video editing software like
Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
They will be able to handle both the
game and video recording, also it
tightens up your video to make it more
interesting.
An obvious example for all of those
things is PewDiePie. During his
playthrough videos, he can be seen with
his own microphone in front of him.
Usually the videos are with both himself
and the game footage edited to be
together onscreen. There are a lot of
other random edits that you can do to
make the tone and pace of the video way
more fun than a regular watch me play.
2. Stick with a series, you can do small
videos on other games later down the
road, but stick to one main series at
the start
When you start building your audience, it
will help to start off by being more
consistent with the type of game you
decide to play, and how much of it
youre going to share. With longer,
newer games, audiences are looking for
Lets Play videos of each
part/chapter/level. So it will be worth
making a couple of videos to be part of a
playlist.
The blogging superstars Don & Phile
have massive success with their gaming
channel after they committed to a
continuous strand of videos. They have
an epic series that has adventures of the
adorable monstrosity Dil Howlter in
the game Sims 4.
Play with some friends
If you are a little nervous about starting
your gaming video alone, it will help if
you can get one of your friends to be in
the video with you occasionally, or they
can become part of your videos. Some of
the best and most hilarious gaming
videos have come from the chemistry
between two people playing and
laughing together.
4. Care about what you choose to play
If its either your new favorite game or a
new release thats frustrating and almost
impossible to get through, it will be
important to have passion for what
youre playing. Several gaming channels
will not record their face while playing,
so they depend on their commentary to
keep their audience engaged. So try not
to be bored!
Endless gaming channels have lost their
chill and quit while they are playing.
Recently this happened to Markiplier
while playing The Impossible Game.
Even though others also hated the game,
their commentary made it more
enjoyable.
Which will bring us to our last point.

Remember to not be quiet and talk

If youre alone while playing a game, it
will be easy to get distracted and forget
that you are recording. You will not get
anywhere if all you do is upload videos
of gameplay footage with little to no
commentary. The gaming world is now
being filled with channels competing for
the attentions of their viewers. People
will be more likely to follow or
subscribe to you if there is commentary.
But keep in mind that you dont have to
start out as a crazy, quirky internet
person, but it will help if you put your
voice out there during the beginning.

If you are wanting to start a streaming

channel on Twitch, that is another great
option. YouTube is more for recorded
videos, and most of them are humorous.
But if you want to do something thats
different, you can stream live videos on
Twitch.
So here are 10 very important tips that
will help you start a Twitch channel.
Make sure you have a good mic.
The reason why people are watching
live streams is for the commentary and
not as much as the gameplay. Make sure
that you dont sound like your being
muffled over an intercom. Your mic
wont have to be amazing, but just make
sure that it wont have a tone of static
and that your voice is coming out clear.
You should also use a headset or ear
buds so there wont be any feedback
from speakers.
2. Having a strong internet connection.
Your internet doesnt have to be
lightning fast but it will need to be
decent. Make sure that your internet will
be fast enough to broadcast your video at
720p or more.
3. Purchase a webcam.
The whole point of streaming live is for
the streamer to be able to interact with
their viewers and your viewers enjoy
knowing what you look like. Having a
face to your product (gaming) has more
of an impact. It seems on Twitch that
streamers who have webcams usually do
better than one who dont. Just like your
internet connection and mic, your
webcam has to be decent. Make sure it
will be able to record at least 720p and
when it does records looks good for
your viewers.
4. Make a HUD.
Now that you know what hardware
youll need, lets jump over to the
software side of streaming. You could
use either OBS or you can try
alternatives like xSplit. Make sure that
your stream is looking good and stands
out of the crowd. Put a border around
your webcam and make sure that you
have pop-up notifications for when
someone donates or follows. This will
help in encouraging other viewers to do
the same.
5. Stream something that people will
watch, but dont stream.
If you are wanting to stream Hearthstone,
Minecraft, Starcraft or League of
Legends just give up on those games.
Youll need to stream something that
many people will watch but not a lot of
people are streaming. Go to the list of
games that are on Twitch, skip over the
first 10-20 games that are on the list.
Once your down the list a little ways,
start looking for games you like. You
should click on those games and see how
many people are currently streaming
them. If you see that there is already 30
people streaming that game, pick
something else. The whole point of this
is for you to appear on the front page of
a game. You are wanting people to see
your stream. If youre on the first page
youll be a lot more likely to get new
viewers and wont be buried under
thousands of other people who are
streaming that game.
Get yourself a chat bot.
We are not talking about view bots,
dont get that, you will be banned. If you
have watched any streams you might
have noticed someone either named
Moobot or Nightbot in the streams.
These are chat bots, they are the ones
who check the chat to make sure that no
one is posting links or anything else that
might be dangerous. You definitely dont
want a bot coming into your chat, have it
post some malicious link, or one of your
viewers could click on a link and it
could be a virus. Its better to be safe
rather than sorry.
7. Make sure to interact with your
viewers
Refresh your viewers list and each time
someone new joins in say hello to them
directly and welcome them to your
stream. Be nice to everyone, answer
your viewers questions, and ask them
questions. Talk with your viewers just
like you talk to your best friend. Do not
argue with people, if someone is being
rude or doing something thats annoying
you just mute them and take care of it
fast.
8. Talk to someone while you are
streaming.
Before you start streaming you can start
up a call on Skype with one of your
friends because for just a little while no
one is going to be viewing your stream.
If someone joins in on your stream and
no one is talking theyre going to leave
right away. If youre talking to someone
its more likely that people will stick
around in your streams.
9. Have consistency.
You should try and set up a steam
schedule. People will more likely watch
your stream if its at a specific time than
just random times.

Be persistent.
Some streams may go great, and some
can go bad. Not all of your streams will
be fun. Someone might join in on your
stream and start harassing you or even
your viewers. There are several
different things that can go wrong when
you are streaming. To have a successful
start to your channel you will have to
keep going even when things are going
wrong.
Chapter 5: Branding A Gaming Channel

Over forty percent of the population in

the United States play video games at
least three hours every week. This has
led a spark towards the evolution of the
gaming industry, and has allowed
storytellers from around the world
express their imagination. And while
video game makers are making a killing,
one of the major factors of the gaming
industry is the community itself. Millions
of people tune in every single day to
channels across Twitch, and its living
proof that the gaming industry is built
through the community.

With the major money thats pouring into

the market, its safe to say that video
games are blowing up. Currently, Twitch
holds one hundred million unique
visitors every single month. Even though
the business has been around for a few
years, it was sold to Amazon for a
billion dollars. Currently, almost ten
million people engage in Twitch every
single day, and half of the active twitch
audience spends at least twenty hours a
day watching videos. This means that
theres almost one hundred million hours
of powerful users that are watch
channels at a daily rate.

Twitch is a vast ocean where any gamer

can make a splash and make some extra
cash by doing what he or she loves.
Lets get down to business!

Why Branding Is So Important

Currently, everyone inside of the top 100

channels of Twitch have generated
45,000,000 or more views. But how did
these channels get such a big audience?
How Gamers Brand Their Gaming
Channels

Its time to get down into the best part of

building your channel. If youre looking
to start making money while you serve
as entertainment, the first avenue you
need to take is to develop the image of
your channel. Remember that in order to
generate profits, you have to treat the
channel like a business. Having a
specific approach to your channel will
allow you to hone in on subscribers that
enjoy your sense of humor as well as the
games that you live stream and the
tutorials that you create.
Branding allows you to be identified as
an icon, and lets you step up above the
noise of the millions of broadcasters
inside of the gaming industry. The first
step towards branding your channel is
through understanding how all of the
power users make their money from
broadcasting.
Naming Your Channel:
Having an epic name will probably
impact whether or not you thrive or fail
while youre having a blast playing
games. And while it sounds really
exciting to think of a cool name, finding
a great name can get be pretty hard. The
name of something is its identity. But by
combining a series of words, you can
create a pleasant association with your
gaming channel before people even
watch your first stream.

Your name should be easy to read and

write.
For example,
SuperEpicMazeTravelerThroughMassiveB
would be a nightmare to discover,
remember, and identify with. While its
fun expressing your unique personality,
its important that the name of your
channel is easy to write and pronounce.
This will allow people to identify with
you as they look for channels to search
throughout YouTube and Twitch. The
more likely someone is to remember
your name, the more likely they are to
come back to the channel.
2. Its very important that your name is
one of a kind

In an age where everything seems to be

rehashed, its nice to find something
fresh and entertaining. The unique angles
you can take when you pick a name for
your gaming channel, its important to
remember that this is going to be a name
that will its define career. Dive in and
think about what kind of channel are you
thinking of developing? What gaming
genres do you enjoy? What games do
you love? What are your favorite parts
about games? What skills do you have
while youre gaming? Are you a serious
gamer? Or are you playing for the thrill
of it? Do you want to play games with
friends or teach people how to conquer
difficult problems that can happen
throughout the game?
Really think about what you really love
about gaming, and then use that as a
foundation for the name of your gaming
channel. The more unique it is, the more
likely it is to capture peoples attention.
3. Names should be short, but still
make an impact on your audience.

The longer the name, the more likely you

are to lose someones attention.
However, just because your name is
short doesnt mean that it has to be
boring. Try to find ways to find a fun and
catchy name that sticks in your mind! If
you need some help, you can check out
some names of famous streamers
throughout the gaming industry! This will
give you an idea of what video game
lovers already enjoy.
Names should have a rhythm.

You name should be able to jump off

the page. Its the foundation of your
logo. Whether you believe it or not,
your words should stand out from
the noise that surrounds the user
experience. A name that beats
uniquely will allow peoples
attentions to gravitate towards your
videos.
5. Names have to spark a huge
emotion in order to be successful.

In order for you to develop a following

for your channel, you have to develop an
insane association with your channel and
your audience. The name of your channel
is a vision that connects the wondrous
world of gaming. Essentially, youre
looking for genres and gaming styles that
people love and connections that a large
portion of your audience can connect to
at a deep level. Maybe you love old
school games, and you want to bring
forgotten classics back into the spotlight!
Maybe you only want to dabble into
space explorations. Whatever you enjoy
doing will work. Just think of something
that people can connect to and be excited
to tune into every day. The most
important part of naming is that it has to
create a major emotional connection
while being entertaining, unique and fun.
As a broadcaster, live streaming should
be an event and the name of your channel
serves as a headline for all of your live
streams, videos, events, and community
engagement. You dont just want to be
some lady or guy thats pretty cool. You
want to be known and branded so that
your channel is seen as an authority,
progressive, and entertaining.
Getting the right name is the first step in
this journey as a broadcaster. Your
channel has to connect, influence and
inspire others because its not a one size
fits all channel. Its your channel about
something epic, and youre in control of
the entertainment thats blasted through
your channel.
More About Becoming A Broadcaster

Becoming a broadcaster has a lot of

perks, but remember that when you dive
in to make money that there are millions
of other channels that are competing to
make a living through gaming. You might
find yourself comparing your channels to
established ones and think that youll
never be able to get a following.
This could make you feel incredibly
overwhelmed, so at times when you
think you cant make any money from
gaming, just remember that any fish make
a splash in a vast ocean. All it takes is a
specialized approach.
Broadcasting is probably one of the
greatest things youll ever do in your
gaming life. Becoming a voice for a
rising movement is special. Twitch and
YouTube are billion dollar companies
bought in order to capitalize on the
climbing online entertainment industry.
Amazon has consistently proven that
combining physical products with virtual
entertainment platforms provide a
winning recipe for any market, and that
includes gaming.
You arent jumping into a trend thats
going to crash as hard as the .com
bubble because its backed through
companies that are recession proof.
Thats the beauty of video games. As a
broadcaster, you get to connect with
people from around the world at the
touch of a button.
You dont need money, plane tickets, or
adventure. As long as we have an
internet connection, were going to be
doing wonderfully. When you step up to
become a broadcaster, your gaming
world changes because you have people
connect to. Think of ways to make
playing every game exciting, unique,
productive, and fun. Every single time
you go live, youre throwing a party for
the ones who love to play games. You
can help your audience along the way,
let your viewers test run games before
they buy them, and you can even run
giveaways for the games that your
broadcasting in order to generate some
great exposure.
Naming is the first step on your path
towards branding your channel. Its time
to check out a couple of helpful tips you
can use to launch your epic channel.

Making A Logo For Your Channel

Having a logo that stands out is a

wonderful way for your channel to rise
above the crowd. If youve ever surfed
through Twitch or watched a YouTube
tutorial on one of your favorite games,
youve probably discovered that your
favorite channels tend to have pretty
awesome logos. But why is a logo so
important?
Because its going to be everywhere. Its
going to be featured on your channel,
inside of all of your videos, and should
be an image that your audience can
recognize and connect with. Having a
unique logo is exactly like your name.
Its probably best if you make your logo
slightly resemble your name. Its an easy
trick you can use to help your audience
connect to your channel and your live
streams.
If you dont feel like youre creative
enough to make one yourself, all you
have to do is go to 99designs and have a
group of online designers compete to
make your logo.

Develop A Tagline For Your Channel

The tagline for your channel is kind of

like your slogan. You know how popular
products make a splash online and in
television? Pretty much every one of
them have a catch phrase that identifies
the product. The commercials that are
launched by game consoles are a major
hint towards the trends that are coming
up across the entertainment platforms
that are run by Twitch. By understanding
which games are relevant, which
direction your specialty channel
moves towards, youll be able to see the
future and connect with your audience
thats focused on a little more than
games. Game consoles are trying to take
over the entertainment for the modern
home through bypassing cable
companies. With the rise of Sling TV,
game consoles could genuinely become
the major boxes that run entertainment
centers across the world for the next
decade. The time has come for us to try
to make a living by doing what we love.
Theres a huge market out there for
gamers, and the best part is that we can
all be ourselves to make some extra
money!
Your tagline is the sum of the spirit and
focus that youre trying to bring into your
brand. Would you like to be a go to
resource for all of information about a
game? Are you looking to become a
cutting-edge news channel for the
gaming industry? Whatever your chosen
path holds for you should be clearly
represented inside of the Name, Tagline,
and Logo of your channel. The
combining factor of these three major
connections can give you a perfect
foundation for you to put your channel on
the map. If you have conflicting
messages about your channel, your
audience will become confused,
misdirected, and will ultimately lead to
a disconnect from your channel that
makes you memorable. Theres a lot of
research you can conduct inside of the
broadcasting market by simply looking.
However, its rare to find make or break
information about such important topics
along our path to making money while
we play games.

Dont be afraid to commit yourself to an

idea and stick with it. The only way to
be remembered in the vast ocean of
broadcasts is actually be able to be
remembered in the first place. The right
combination of your channels name,
logo and tagline is the first step towards
gaining followers. If you miss the right
formula at the beginning of your journey
towards making videos games a fun and
passive income, you may be doomed to
fail no matter how hard you work.
By consciously focusing on what youd
like to be identified as, youll be able to
break out of your shell while you raise
above the noise. Remember that big
companies are all founded on employees
that can execute business plans that
generate profits. You may never get ten
million followers. But at the same time,
even 10,000 subscribers can give
everyone a great chance at making some
money while they play their favorite
games.

Pay Attention To Video Topics And

Descriptions

Plugging in your microphone and going

live on Twitch isnt exactly enough to get
you a fan base after your you get your
channel all set up. After youve honed in
on exactly what your channel is all
about, the next step towards greatness
comes with the topics we fill up our live
streams with. The Twitch platform has a
lot of fun ways to make your channels
fun, exciting and entertaining. All you
have to do is a little research to realize
more about how successful channels
structure their live casts throughout the
day, week and month. Do live streamers
tend to specialize in one game, or do
they dabble in a bunch of them?
By simply looking at how users are
checking in on Twitch, youll be able to
make huge progress towards
understanding what people enjoy on
Twitch as well as YouTube. Pay
attention to how channels brand their
live streams and how they make their
games more entertaining. The goal of
this isnt to become a copycat of
successful channels. The goal is to find a
unique way to identifying yourself while
you stay relevant to the buzz around
every video game. You may think that
people want one thing, but sometimes a
craze hits topics of video games in
waves. The truth is that you never know
exactly whats going to generate enough
interest from your audience. But if you
understand more about how people
spark interest around the industry, youll
be able to start looking at the main
drivers that spark the attention of users
around Twitch and YouTube.
Just like the name of your channel, there
is a major difference between a video or
live stream being successful or not. It
revolves around the identity of the story
that youre trying to tell. For example, if
youre looking to do a live stream about
magic in a video game, you can
approach it two ways. You can create a
guide to magic, or you can launch a way
to make yourself invincible in dangerous
situations. These simple changes in
perspective allows your audience to
connect and understand the importance
of the topic in a crazy fun way. This
strategy alone can be used to help your
channel gain some traction.
When You Start, Dont Focus On
Subscribers
When you start actually live streaming
across the world, it may take a little bit
of time to get a hold on your schedule
and how to work technical aspects of
broadcasting. This is the perfect time to
get your channel moving with no stress.
When you first start making some
awesome broadcasts, it can feel pretty
frustrating when we have only a handful
of people tuning in. However, this is the
perfect time for you to learn how to get a
hold on your business, and how to try out
a few fun ideas for your gaming channel.
If you broadcast the right way, viewers
will come. Those days that you dont
have many views are perfect for you to
get a nice flow and to improve your
channel while you have a blast playing
video games. Create and connect social
media into the mix and begin to promote
more articles information around
important topics.
Remember that no matter what you do in
a day, the most important thing to do
while youre on the live stream is to
have fun. If youre always worried about
the number of users while youre getting
started, you may end up becoming too
serious rather than fun and entertaining.
By going out there and making your
favorite games as entertaining as you
possibly can, youll have a wonderful
place to get started on your live stream.
When your streaming, not everything has
to be perfect. Youll learn more about
broadcasting in a month of doing it than
you would from a year of researching it.
In other words, the major ingredient for
broadcasting is serving as entertainment.
That means that you have to conquer
challenges in fun ways.
Brand The Art and Events For Your
Channel
On a parting note, its important to
remember to focus on branding
throughout everything you do. Find a
way to make your channel to make some
noise in the market. Your main pages can
be your weekly live streaming schedule
as well as upcoming videos and
tutorials. This will allow you to bring a
more powerful background from your
YouTube channels and are perfect for
throwing up while you take breaks
during live streams. Ideally, the goal is
to make enough money so you can focus
your attention on playing. Once you get a
few donations, youll be excited.
Its true that the world is changing.
Machines are taking over the service
industry, which leaves the rest of the
world to be entertainers. Its an exciting
time to love playing video games,
because if you play your cards right,
youll become a professional
broadcaster. Remember that theres no
formula to being unique. Only you can
brand your channel and have a blast
doing it.
The road to paradise in games is long,
and if youre serious about playing for
income, its nice to know that your joy
for playing is why youre doing this in
the first place.
Because truly the worst thing that could
happen from you live streaming is you
have more fun from the experience. Get
out there and connect with the
community. Go have some fun and host a
channel online!
