Moai statues, Chile

Construction on the Moai statues on Easter Island (governed by Chile) is said to have begun as early as the eighth century,
only to come to an abrupt halt one day in the 17th century. Made of Easter Island's compressed volcanic ash, these statues
may have served a religious purpose. Their true purpose and meaning remain a mystery.
