Title of the Bill: Block Periods Act

BE IT ENACTED BY THE MORRISON CONGRESS

1 SECTION 1: Findings
2 Congress makes the following findings:
3 1) Students have more time for reflection and less information to process over
4 the course of a school day. (1)
5 2) Teachers have fewer preparations and more planning time. They teach three
6 classes of 90 minutes and plan for one 90 minute period, therefore, 25% of their
7 time can be devoted to planning. (2)
8 3) Longer time blocks allow for in- depth study, such as individual student
9 projects, peer collaboration, and one-on- one work between teachers and
10 students (3)

12 SECTION 2: Purpose
To require all schools to have block schedules in educational facilities.

SECTION 3: General Provisions

Schools should practice block scheduling as it gives teachers more time to prepare
16 the material for class and also helps students to learn more in depth without
17 interruptions. With block schedules, students will only have 4 classes in one day,
18 with this arrangement, students can be able to dive into more varieties of student
19 activities that could be more managementable in a longer class periods. Studies
20 have shown that this is better arrangement makes things more efficient as
21 students and teachers both have more time to prepare for the class and do
22 homework. Students may be able to do more group discussions if the periods are
23 longer and could have the time to do extra things in order to understand a topic
24 better. With the normal schedules being 8 class periods per day, is a hassle.
25 Classes being 45 minutes is not enough to dive into a topic deeply enough
26 before the bell rudely interrupts the class. This act will not cost money or use any
27 resources. This will only need some rearrangement of the classes.

29 SECTION 4: Definitions
30 Block schedules: 2 class combined together as one which will yield only 4 classes a
31 day.
32 Normal schedule: 8 classes in a day.
