1.1. Project Objective

The Project Management Institute focuses on nine distinct areas requiring
project manager knowledge and attention:

1. Project integration management to ensure that the various project

elements are effectively coordinated.
2. Project scope management to ensure that all the work required (and
only the required work) is included.
3. Project time management to provide an effective project schedule.
4. Project cost management to identify needed resources and maintain
budget control.
5. Project quality management to ensure functional requirements are
met.
6. Project human resource management to development and
effectively employ project personnel.
7. Project communications management to ensure effective internal
and external communications.
8. Project risk management to analyze and mitigate potential risks.
9. Project procurement management to obtain necessary resources
from external sources.

2.1. Strategic Planning

It is very important that the website creator have a strong understanding
of the traditional business goals of an organization before embarking on
the website creation process. It is only through this understanding that
the creator can effectively make recommendations and align the website
strategy with that of the business. Many problems of websites stem from
the goals of the website being mis-aligned with the goals of the business.
A website is a tool to facilitate business. Companies are realizing that they
need to communicate business goals to the people in charge of managing
their new tool. Websites are proving to be a cost-effective way to
disseminate information compared to traditional methods. A website is an
interactive way to answer the questions of consumers without the
traditional expenses of payroll and training for human resources. Websites
can help reduce payroll and other overhead costs for many businesses. A
very important element of planning a website is cost justifying the
expenses in a measurable way. New technology is never embraced until a
new system is demonstrably better than an old one and cost and savings
is one of the best ways to demonstrate the value of new technology.

2.2. Content Planning

One of the first steps in planning for a website is deciding on content.
Planning the content of a site is a much more comprehensive project than
it first appears. To properly plan content for a website it is necessary to
first make assumptions on what will be of most value to visitors. The
content of a site must be determined by the type of site and site
objectives. For instance, a site that is selling car stereo equipment would
most likely have reviews, specification information, and descriptions on
the products they carry. Secondary content could be reviews and
comparisons of equipment from other manufacturers, articles on car audio
emerging technology, or news about car audio competition events. The
secondary content serves as an “appetizer” to visitors only looking for
information that keep the target customer close for when they do decide
to make a purchase. When they decide to make a purchase, they will seek
out the primary information and the website will have built up a level of
credibility with the customer by being an expert in the field.
2.3. Keyword Planning

With so many options of what may be displayed on a website, it is helpful

to know what exactly users are looking for. In order to do this, it is
necessary to use some of the research tools available to website
developers. Some of the best tools in this category include Overture’s
Search Term Suggestions Tool
(http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/),
Wordtracker.com, and Google Sets (http://labs.google.com/sets). There is
an abundance of data that can be derived from the information provided
by these tools. Each of them is free for general use, and provides some
insight into how often given search terms are queried in the search
engines, and what other key phrases are within the “theme” of a website.

Website planning is also influenced by the technology that is used in

creating the website. One of the decisions for the technology of a website
will include whether the page will be created statically or dynamically.
Dynamic usually means capable of action and/or change, while static
means fixed. Dynamic pages are normally database driven and require
much more high-dollar labor in the short run. Both types of sites have
their pros and cons. The two technologies seem to be converging on many
sites, and most sites seem to have at least a limited amount of dynamic
content as well as static content. When considering dynamic content for a
site, it is important to make sure the individual pages have the ability to
be indexed by a search engine spider. Certain types of dynamically
created web content may not be compatible with search engine
technology and should be examined to ensure effectiveness.

2.4. Budgetary Planning

The largest restriction normally placed on a website is the budget. Every
company wants an incredible website that will “wow” customers and
receive art awards, but they just do not want to pay very much for it. The
biggest concern for most companies creating a website should be gaining
the most value for the cost. Many sites will be restricted by the size of the
allotted budget. This makes it more important for the website to be cost-
justified to command a larger budget in the future. There are two main
expenses when creating a website, the cost to serve the page to users,
and the labor involved in the website’s creation. The first expense is
called “hosting” the website. A “host” is a computer system that is
accessed by a user working at a remote location. Typically, the term host
is used when there are two computer systems connected by modems and
data lines. The system that contains the data is called the host, while the
computer at which the user sits is called the remote terminal or “client”.
Website hosting pricing varies widely depending on services, bandwidth,
and file storage space.

estimated cost after crashing the activities on the critical path
will be:

53000+2000+2100+9600+3000+1000+900=Rs. 86,900.00
6. Project Monitoring and Control:

The purpose of controlling is always to bring the actual schedule, budget,

and deliverables of the project into reasonably close congruence with the
planned schedule, budget, and deliverables

The job of the project manager is to set controls that will encourage those
behaviors that are deemed desirable and discourage those that are not.

We will monitor the project using the feedbacks from the customer and
our steering committee after each development phase so as to align the
strategy of the website development with the strategies of the customer’s
business.

7. Conclusion

For the success of the project it should be completed within the specified
time and cost. To carry out the project keeping in mind the standard set
by the organization we have to follow well set techniques and principle
like Scheduling, Cost estimations, accounting and so on. These techniques
are required to be implemented so that the risk of failing the project will
be reduced and we may effectively complete the project with the
matching standard set by the organizations.
