Starling Elementary School

Hello music students and parents!

Everyday in music class we will work together to create music. Using games, songs,
dances, and other activities students will be learning by having fun and actively
engaging and communicating with each other through the art of music. Everyday, there
will be various activities that connect music to other aspects of academics such as art,
physical education, social studies, history, math, literacy, and language. Students will
come to music class to sing and play instruments. They will be reading and writing
music, learning notes and rhythm, and every day will be building on what they already
know or have learned the previous day.

Classroom Rules and/or Expectations: Goals for the year:

Students are expected to participate in
activities such as singing, playing musical
instruments, dancing, games, etc.
Students are expected to stay engaged
throughout class and listen to others.
Students must actively be kind, be
respectful, be responsible, and be safe.
Students must use their speaking and
singing voice in class and be silent when
someone else is talking.
Learn new music
Learn new rhythms and melodies
Learn diverse music from other cultures
Share ideas and express feelings related to music
Students will be able to sing, move, perform,
play instruments, read, write, improvise, analyze
and compose
Connect music to other content areas such as
history, art, math, language, etc.
Sing with good posture

Grading Policies:
Grading is assessed according to grade level
and is based on completion of homework and
ability to demonstrate an understanding of
pitch and rhythm with singing and playing
instruments, responding to different types of
music, and reading and writing music.
Grading Numbers:
4 Student exceeds expectations
3 Student meets expectations
2 Student demonstrates partial understanding
1 Student demonstrates little to no understanding
