MOOD DISORDERS

Hazeldan (2016) mood disorders include major depression, dysthymia, and

bipolar disorder. Major depression: A person with major depression feels
intensely sad, worthless, hopeless, and helpless for prolonged periods of time,
surpassing the normal ups and downs of everyday life. Depression is not just
"feeling blue" or just "having a bad day." Symptoms include:

1. Persistently sad or irritable mood

2. Pronounced changes in sleep, appetite, and energy
3. Difficulty thinking, concentrating, and remembering
4. Physical slowing or agitation
5. Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide
6. Lack of interest in or pleasure from activities that were once enjoyed;
feelings of guilt, worthlessness, hopelessness, or emptiness
7. Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as
headaches, digestive disorders, and chronic pain

Treatment

Goldberg (2016) you may need to see a psychiatrist, who can prescribe
medication, along with a psychologist, who focuses on talk therapy to help you
deal with problems at work or family tension. Antidepressants, antipsychotics,
anti-anxiety medications, and mood stabilizers can treat bipolar disorder. In severe
cases, electroconvulsive therapy -- when electric current is passed through your
brain -- helps some people.
b. Personality disorders
rebecca (2013) explains personality disorders, including possible causes and
how you can access treatment and support. Includes tips for helping yourself,
and guidance for friends and family.
The types are grouped into three categories:
Suspicious paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal and antisocial.
Emotional and impulsive borderline, histrionic and narcissistic.
Anxious avoidant, dependent and obsessive compulsive.
For each type, a diagnosis will not be made if you have only one or two of
the characteristics.
You may find that you meet the criteria for several different types of
personality disorder. It can also be the case that a wide range of people meet
the criteria for the same disorder, despite having very different personalities
and different individual experiences.
