Plagiarism
It is important to learn from the work of others and you are encouraged to explore a range of
resources, World Wide Web resources and have discussions with other students. However, work for
assessment must be entirely your own work.

Plagiarism is the presentation of the expressed thought or work of another person as though it is
one's own without properly acknowledging that person.

You must not allow other students to copy your work and must take care to safeguard against this
happening. In cases of copying, normally all students involved will be penalised equally; an
exception will be if you can demonstrate the work is your own and you take reasonable care to
safeguard against copying.

Plagiarism is a serious offence. Students who are caught plagiarising will, for a first offence, be
given a zero mark for that task. A second offence will result in a failing grade for the unit (s) involved
and any subsequent offence will be result in suspension.

Late Assignments
Late assignments without a valid excuse will be penalised at the rate of 10% per day, that is, an
assignment is marked out of 90% for 1 day late, 80% for 2 days late, etc. and after one week (7
days) assignments will not be accepted at all. (Example: An assignment due in on Wednesday, but
handed in on the same week on Friday morning is marked out of 80%).

Extensions
If students are adversely affected by life circumstances then they may, at the discretion of the
lecturer, be granted up to one week as an extension on the due date. If students' work is affected to
a substantial degree, requiring more than the few days extension, then they may apply for Special
Consideration.

Special Consideration
In the case of serious illness, loss or bereavement, hardship or trauma students may be granted
special consideration. In cases of absence from a scheduled examination or lateness in submitting
an assignment, it is the responsibility of the student (or other parties) to notify the lecturer preferably
on the day, but in any case an application for special consideration should be made to the lecturer
not later than three days after the date of the examination or submission of the component of
assessment.
Whenever practicable deferred examinations will be held at the end of the normal examination/
testing period, and will be included on the official examination timetable.

Student Support
It is recommended that students should contact local campuses regarding life and study support. It
is reasonable for a student to have part time job. However, a student should efficiently manage his
or her time. A student should spend at least 25-30 learning hours including lecture, tutorial, practical
work and independent study for one unit per week. Students are recommended to consult local
campus for the balance of part time work and study, and effective time management.
