The Kaslo Housing Society is seeking a person who can fill a number of roles
which will help to address housing needs and opportunities in Kaslo and
RDCK Area D. the ultimate goal of the housing coordinator position is to
increase the availability of housing in our area, especially for persons whose
current housing situation is causing financial or other stresses.
To achieve that goal the coordinator is expected to keep regular office hours
for citizen appointments, so as to be available as a resource to individuals.
The coordinator will also work with local government, the Kaslo Housing
Society, the Kaslo and Area Senior Shelter Society and other social service
organizations to help them in achieving their goals of increasing the
number of affordable and appropriate dwellings.

Leanore Lea (Currie) Brown of humour or feistiness. Anyone who

Lea Brown, our angel, was called home on
Thursday, November 30, 2017 after a long
battle with cancer, yet she never lost her sense

passion for people. She was the most caring,
compassionate, warm and gentle person with
a love for life.
Lea was raised in Chase, BC and always
felt BC was home. For the last several years
she called Kaslo (Schroeder Creek Resort)
home, where she found a whole new world of
wonderful friends.
She loved to travel to Thailand and Mexico
and had a huge heart for her elephants. She
also was an amazing cook and would love to
show others how much they were cared for by
creating wonderful meals.
Lea will be greatly missed by her partner
and best friend Randy Phipps and his children
Jason, Ryan, and Phoenix; sister Bonnie Rose
and her daughter Amy (Bill); son Dean Lamb
(Debbie) and his children Shelley, Stacey, and
Michelle; daughter Jan Jordan (Tim) and her
son Sam; daughter Barb Michalko (Darryl)
and her children, Cody, Taylor, and Madison;
daughter Karyn MacPhail and her children
Josh and Kaity; loving cousins, Grant,
Bonnie, Dixie and Doug; as well as numerous
great-grandchildren and many wonderful
people in her life that she called family you
know who you are!
Lea was predeceased by her parents Joyce
& Frank Hunt and brother Bruce Anderson.

held. Photos, memories and condolences

We are overwhelmed by the care, love and
support that the staff gave to Lea while at the
Southwood Hospice in Calgary. Every effort
was made to ensure Leas final days were the
best possible. We could not have asked for a
more amazing group of people.

A Country Christmas celebration

Starting in 2018, the Central Kootenay Food Policy Council
will make it easier to answer that question. The Council is
undertaking a survey of area producers so that we can publish
an annual, Central-Kootenay-wide Directory of all the great
food that is grown, raised, harvested and processed in the
Central Kootenay. Information gathered by the council will
be shared with our partner, the Pennywise Community Shop-
per, who also publishes the award winning Go & Do Regional
Magazine and the Kaslo Area Guide and known for their
expertise in producing a long running quality publication. It
will be the responsibility of Pennywise to approach and solicit
the advertising necessary to produce this publication.
This Directory will market farms and food processors, help-
ing to heighten their profile in the Central Kootenay. There
will be no fee for participating in the Directory. Farm & Food
Directories are used by local residents, tourists and those in
the food sector who may be looking to source local ingredi-
ents or product for their own enterprises, such as restaurants,
processors and grocers.
The Central Kootenay Farm & Food Directory listings will
be grouped by subregion and searchable by product category.
It will also contain a listing of venues and events where local
food is available, a seasonal food guide and a section on emer-
gency food services across the Central Kootenay. The infor-
mation, collected annually, will enable the Council to monitor
the health of our food shed and promote policy change and ini-
tiatives to ensure that we have a thriving local food economy.
This project is funded in part by Agriculture and Agri-
Food Canada and the Government of British Columbia
through the Agri-Food Futures Fund. This program is deliv-
ered by the Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC. Fund-
ing and support for this project has also been provided by the
Community Health Action Initiative, in cooperation with
Interior Health, the Regional District of Central Kootenay,
the Osprey Foundation, the Columbia Basin Trust, Council
members and partners.
