Reading Response # 2 Multilingual Writing

Summary
In the article, Multilingual Students and College Writing by Professor Dana Ferris, the
discussion is mainly about the problems that a Multilingual might have and how those problems
can be overcome using different techniques. College level writings are expected to be error free
and Professor Ferris purpose is to improve the expectancy of all Multilingual students, offering
them opportunities to overcome their writing problems. Problems of some Multilingual students
might be their grammar, their structure of writing, and even their language issues, having
problems with limited vocabulary. Professor Ferris mentions that there are a lot of helps for
Multilingual students who have these kind of problems with their writing skills and highlights that
reading is very important as well.

Claim
My peers in class would benefit most importantly from the idea that there are aids with which
they can count with in case of needing help.
The most important idea from this text that I could use in another course would be the idea of
knowing that there are people who could help me in ways like proofreading an essay or by
helping me understand something that I think its too complicated.

In Professors Ferris text, there are many strategies and ideas that could be of great help
for my peers in class helping them as writers, readers, and by extending their vocabulary as
well. Specially, my peers in class would benefit most importantly from the idea that there are
aids with which they can count with in case of needing help.
The most important idea from this text that I could use in another course would be the
idea of knowing that there are people who could help me in ways like proofreading an essay or
by helping me understand something that I think its too complicated. Professor Ferris remarks
the resources giving to help the student like, the University Writing Center, which includes
specialized materials and tutors trained to work with ML students( Professor Dana Ferris, p.
27). Most of the time what multilingual students need to write in college level is advice and help
from a trained tutor. Having the University Writing Center resource could be the opportunity
needed to meet the expectations needed for the level that college demands.

students who have learned to read and write in another language may be affected by
contrastive and intercultural rhetoric.

2. Intercultural; pertaining to or taking place between two or more cultures; ML students who

3.the state of being strikingly different from something in juxtaposition or close association; In
contrast, quotations from psychologists or child development specialist or statistics about
children of working mother could be more convincing.

4.Systematic; done or acting according to a fixed plan system methodical; Second, ML writers
might consider studying English academic vocabulary in a systematic way.
