The Potential of Music Therapy in Neurology Using Multiple Sclerosis as an Example Commented [ALC1]: Introduction

is an article that aims to explain exactly what music therapy is, the different areas of music

therapy, and the positive impact of music therapy on patients, especially in studies done on

multiple sclerosis patients.

The article explains that music therapy is a psychotherapeutic method used for restoring Commented [ALC2]: Summary

and maintaining mental and physical health and promoting their stabilization. The authors break

down music therapy into the three main areas. Receptive music therapy is a type of music

therapy where the patient is simply a listener. Active music therapy is based on the patient

participating in musical activities such as singing and playing instruments. Integrative music

therapy combines music with other art forms such as visual art and dance. Towards the end of

the article, the authors go into detail about the effects of music therapy on patients with multiple

sclerosis. They discuss studies that have proved an increase of respiratory muscle strength, self-

esteem, and overall mental health in these patients.

The issue with this article is that the title is misleading. The title leads the reader to Commented [ALC3]: Assessment

believe they will be reading mainly about multiple sclerosis patients using music therapy, where

the authors truly didnt go into detail about music therapy until about 2/3s of the way through

the article. The majority of the article was a lot of good information about what music therapy is,

but it wasnt quite what the title leads the reader to believe it will be.

I personally gained a lot of knowledge through reading this article. The three types of Commented [ALC4]: Reflection

music therapy and the examples of them given in the article will be incredibly beneficial to my

paper. The only issue that I have with the article is the misleading title. Other than that, it was

well written and highly informational.

The article thoroughly explains what music therapy is and gives real world examples of Commented [ALC5]: Conclusion

music therapy patients. This is the most informational article I have read for this paper.
