Reginald E. Stinson
My original goal for the I As a Learner, was to develop a website of lesson plans,
assessment tools, and resources about financial literacy skills and approaches for teaching and
administering assessments. This goal is important to me for several reasons, one being that most
of my students live in urban environments, not very different from some of the neighborhoods I
lived in periodically as a child. I teach at a S.T.E.M. middle school and believe that my students
should not only be exposed to the Science, Technology, English, and Mathematics skill taught at
my school. But they also need to learn the basics of personal finance and how to manage their
personal financial resources effectively throughout their lives, starting now in Middle School.

Modifications were made when I received feedback and when the student working with
me initially had to abruptly move. I recruited a new student to participate in the activities needed
to complete the requirements for the course. And, because I found it difficult to incorporate my
goal into my daily lesson plans. I adjusted and invited representatives for Wells Fargo Bank,
N.A. community outreach department to present to all 160 of my students during Get Smart
About Credit Week. Representatives from Well Fargo were able to speak with my students
about the importance of using credit wisely. They were great, not only did they give lively and
timely information to my students, they also kept them engaged and excited about personal
finance. I and some of the representatives were also surprised about how much my students
currently knew about the day-to-day trapping of finances in America and their lives.
