Historical Events

The Montgomery Bus Boycott took place in December 1 of 1955. In this time the buses were segregated
by having the whites seat on the front of the bus and the blacks would seat on the back and use the
back door to enter and exit the bus, if a white person of color request the seat of a black passenger the
black passenger would had to relinquish the seat to the white person requesting it. In Dec 1, 1955 a
person by the name of Rosa Parks refuse to give up her seat to a white person. Rosa when to jail and
after being bail out of jail she started a movement to boycott the buses which had a loss of over 40,000
black passengers during this boycott.

The Civil Rights Act of 1960 as an act to help referee and identify the qualify voter. With this act there
were protest that took place because people did not want African Americans to vote. This act continue
to 1964 where it also effected the discrimination of employment on the basis of religion, sex, race, color,
and national origin.

The Great Society took place in the year 1963. At this time is when President Lyndon Johnson took the
oath of office. During this time the nation had a great population in poverty and racial discrimination.
Pres. Johnson had the ambition to make a change. His administration called it the war on poverty. He
had a vision of a Great Society in which everyone could share in the opportunities for a better life
that the United States (textbook page 448) which had much to offer.

The Baby Boom of 1948 had a change in the youth of America. Although the parents had restrains on
movies and the catering to every need, because of the stability of the nations economy in this time the
baby boomers had been bombarded by marketers and advertising. A fact, during the time of 1948-1955
the household television increase in numbers from only 178,000 televisions in homes in 1948, by 1955,
over three-quarters of a million U.S. households, about half of all homes, had television. (textbook page
417)

The Bay of Pigs is in the coast of Cuba. In the year 1959 Cuba has a change of leadership from the
dictatorial regime of Fulgencio Batista, changed to Fidel Castro in which thing did not change. Instead of
having the US takeover the small Island of Cuba, the CIA trained a small force of Cuban exiles to handle
the problem in the Bay of Pigs.

The Iranian Hostage Crisis that took place on November 4, 1979, was started by a group of Iranian
students and activists who wanted to end the westernization and secularization of Iran. This group took
the action of taking over the American embassy. the American embassy in Tehran and seized sixty-six
embassy employees. Although the women and African Americans were soon released, negotiations
failed to free the remaining fifty-two hostages. In April 1980, a rescue attempt fell through when two of
the aircraft sent to transport them collided and crashed. (Textbook page 468) This hurt the President
Carters election in 1981. This was one of the reasons that President Ronald Regan took office in 1981,
when the hostages where released.
