In this study we found that effects of pregnancy on the periodontal tissue can be seen

from OHI-S and CPI score. 31 subjects of pregnant women from Puskesmas Dupak Surabaya
was used for this study. Subjects were examined for their Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S) and CPI
score. From the study, we found that level of pregnant womens oral hygiene and level of
severity of periodontal tissue on Puskesmas Dupak was poor.
From the results, we found that score of their OHI-S was fair. The results can be caused
from diet that consumed by subjects. 26 of 31 subjects, 83,9% have a bad dietary habit. From
cross tabulation result, there was no significant correlation between choose cariogenic food and
OHI-S. However, OHI-S can be caused by toothbrush habits. The score of OHI-S can also be
affected by frequency of toothbrushing their teeth. Toothbrushing is the most effective
mechanical way to clean away plaque from the teeth. 54,8% of total subjects hae a wrong way to
brush their teeth. That means most of subjects didnt brush their teeth after breakfast, lunch or
snacking and didnt brush their teeth before sleeping. However, from the tabulation results there
is no significant relationship between habit of brushing teeth with OHI-S results. There is no
significancy between dietary habit and frequency of brushing their teeth with OHI-S score.
The severity of periodontal tissue in this study was measured by CPI score. There is 71%
from 31 subjects have a poor CPI score. Most of subjects have a poor CPI score, it may be
caused by OHI-S score which is plaque and calculus. From the results, we can conclude that
subjects who has poor CPI score can caused by poor OHI-S score. However, there are two other
factors and tested that may affect the severity of periodontal tissue, the level of knowledge of
pregnant women about the signs of periodontal disease and the level of knowledge of pregnant
women about the impact of periodontal disease during pregnancy. From the results of the
quisionaire 61.3% of subjects had a knowledge level of periodontal disease marks below average
and 87.1% of subjects had a level of knowledge about the impact of periodontal disease on
fetuss health below average. However, cross-tabulation results have no significant relationship
between the level of knowledge about the signs of periodontal disease and the impact of
periodontal disease on the fetus with the subject's CPI score. Although the results was not find a
significant relationship, but from this study at Puskesmas Dupak we found that severity of
periodontal tissue that pregnant woman have is poor.
From the results of this study, most subjects have a 2 for CPI score and fair for OHI-S.
According to the theory, score OHI-S can affect the severity of periodontal tissue. Although the
severity of periodontitis was affected by oral hygiene conditions, the increased of severity
periodontal tissue occurring in pregnant women is influenced by hormonal factors. From this
study, it was found that pregnant women in the Puskesmas Dupak had poor oral hygiene, poor
periodontal severity, knowledge of periodontal disease and the impact for fetus was bad.
