My Philosophy on Technology in

Education

It is my belief that the purpose of Education is to guide children to become resilient, effective
communicators, to be culturally and socially aware. To motivate students to become
responsible individuals, independent thinkers and also develop their problem solving skills.
Technology refers to methods, systems, and devices which are the of
result scientific knowledge being used for practical purposes. Educational technology is the
study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating,
using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources. Technology is needed
in education, because, the world is surrounded by technology, it is everywhere, whether we
are working or resting. My goals for using technology in education are to develop meaningful
instructional programmes, to enhance the different learning styles in my classroom.

Technology teaches learners how to become global citizens. It also transforms the classroom
into a learner-centred environment and allows learners to virtually travel the world from their
classroom space. Technology also influences the learning process to be active rather than
passive; as learners are required to have direct, first-hand experiences with the various
technological resources in order for knowledge to be imparted to them.

As an Early Childhood Educator, I have been using technology in my classroom to enhance

my lessons and capture my students attention. My classroom is equipped with a projector, I
have my laptop, which I often use to introduce my phonics lesson, numeracy lessons and for
storytelling, I also use movie to recap scenes from field trips such as visits to the National
Heroes park. However, I am cognizant of the fact that there is always room for improvement
and a Myriad of techniques and strategies to learn in the field of technology, therefore with
this in mind; I will continue to advance my technology skills, through research, workshops,
courses such as Education in Technology to better equip myself as a teacher and a lifelong
learner.

It is my belief that the teaching and learning environment can be more interesting and
stimulating, when learners use their cognitive skills, to discover things around them. This can
be realized, as I set the environment for this type of discovery to take place. This has been
proven by theorists such as John Dewey and Mariah Montessori as they theorize that children
learn best, when their environment is set for them and they are given the opportunity to
explore. Also in the words of Benjamin Franklin Tell me and I forgot. Teach me and I
remember. Involve me and I learn

As an in service educator I will promote and demonstrate ethical principles in the use of
technology in my classroom. Ethical principles such as confidentiality, ask permission before
using peoples work, respect the rights and privacy of other technology users.
