How Does Animal Assisted Therapy Help People?

Allison, M., & Ramaswamy, M. (2016). Adapting animal-assisted therapy trials to prison-
based animal programs. Public Health Nursing, 33(5), 472-480.

This article explains that there is a program where people in prison get animal
assisted therapy so; they can learn to be patient. The article talks about the impact
that animals make in the prisoners life and explains that the prisoners are
improving their morality. I am planning to use this article to explain that animals
can certainly make people change. Also with this article I can give true examples
that animal assisted therapy is really helping people in a psychological manner but,
animals are also helping themselves. Also, I will use this article to explain that we
can learn a lot from those animals because they do not care about your financial
status, they are going to be there for you when you need them.

O'Callaghan, D. M. (2010, October). Matching animal-assisted therapy
techniques and intentions with counseling guiding theories. Journal of Mental
Health Counseling, 32(4), 354+.

This journal talks about how animal assisted therapy help people, but in a
physical way. It also demonstrates that the company of animals can make us
more positive and happier people. I am going to use this article to give examples
of how animal help people with physical disabilities. This journal also gives
examples of techniques that are used to help people by providing an animal
assisted therapy so; I am planning to use this information to emphasize that
animals can help people in different ways. To give more credibility I can use
examples of animal therapy as this journal does.

Jalongo, M. R. (2005). "What are all these dogs doing at school?" Using therapy dogs
to promote children's reading practice. Childhood Education, 81(3), 152+.

This article is about how dogs are used in school to encourage student to read
more. The article explains that there was a dog in the classroom when it was
time to read and with the pass of the time the children used to get excited to read
but, it was not because they liked to read but, because they wanted to pet the
dog. I will use this article to give a clearly example of how animals are useful to
help people emotionally no matter if they are disabled or not. Also, this article
will be useful to give an example that assistant animals should be allowed in
schools.

Kelly, M. A., & Cozzolino, C. A. (2015). Helping at-risk youth overcome trauma and
substance 4abuse through animal-assisted therapy. Contemporary Justice Review,
18(4), 421-434.

This article talks about how animals help people who suffer a trauma, it explains
that the people who had been through a lot of horrible things such violence, rapes,
accidents, etc. are afraid of almost everything. Animal assistance therapy helps this
kind of people to be a normal person again who can go out without feel that
something bad is going to happen. I am going to use this article to explain how
animals help emotionally these kinds of people. It is also a good source to explain
that animals make us feel secure and that we are not alone. The article is very
reliable and I think that is interesting how some people can get back to a normal life
just with the help of the animal assistant therapy

Packman, W., Kelley, E., Rudolph, B., Long, J., Wallace, J., Hsu, M., & ... Field, N.
(2017). Projective Drawings of Individuals Grieving the Loss of a Pet. Art Therapy:
Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, 34(1), 29-37.

This article is very sad because it is about people who lost a pet and are suffering for
that. The article explains that for some people the company of a pet is everything. I
am going to use this article to explain how important a pet can be for a person.
Maybe a person does not understand the love that a person has for a pet and for that
reason I am going to use this article to give some examples of people who feel that
have lost a member of the family instead of just a pet. Another thing that this article
explains is that most of the time that a person loses a pet they do not want to replace
it with another one.

Veterans with PTSD may benefit from trained canine companion. (2013, January-
February). DAV Magazine, 55(1), 25.

This article explains how animals make veterans feel good. Most of the veterans
explain that their life is not the same since they finished their service but, thanks
to pets they now feel full and happy. I am going to use this source to give
examples of how animals help us in many ways such emotional and physical.
Also, I can explain that animals are also happy making these people happy.
Another thing is that I can give examples of the importance of animals in our
lives. The article also explains that veterans feel that their only family that they
have is their pet.

Von Bergen, C. W., & Bressler, M. S. (2015). Employees' Best Friends and Other
Animals in the Workplace. Employee Relations Law Journal, 41(1), 4-34.

This article talks about the animals that help in work. An example of a service
dog is a k-9 unit. I find very useful this article because it explains how does
animals help fireman, police, and even help to find buried or lost bodies. I am
going to use this source to explain that animals are as good as humans. Most of
the people think that humans are the superior being but, we have a lot to learn
from animals and I am going to explain that using this article.
