Abstract Traditional dwellings have taken the strategy which adjusts to the
local climatic. They created relatively suitable living conditions consuming little 24 %
energy only with architectural measures, which is still helpful to todays design

of building energy efficiency. This article analyzes these passive techniques in

aspects of the material usage, thermal insulation, ventilation, solar heat gain

and sun controls in Chinese traditional dwellings.
