DESCRIBE THE PROBLEM

During visual inspection done by Azerconnect representatives, rust stains have been observed on
hot-dip galvanized items of towers where they are located in site no LNK 0561 (Lankaran), ABS
5966 (Sangachal) and ABS 3802 (Sangachal).

DEFINE AND VERIFY ROOT CAUSE

Galvanized steel is steel that has a tightly bonded zinc coating that prevents corrosion and
increases the steel's longevity and durability. Although galvanizing will inhibit attack of the
underlying steel, rusting will be inevitable after some decades of exposure to weather, especially if
exposed to acidic conditions. Chemical gases from Oil Refinery named after Haydar Aliyev react
with water drops in air and drop on earth and items over it. Eventually this process causes rust stain
on metal items. And zinc on newly galvanized steel is very reactive and wants to form zinc oxide
and zinc hydroxide corrosion products that eventually become the stable zinc carbonate. When
galvanized steel is tightly stacked or stored in wet boxes that dont allow for free flowing air, the zinc
forms excessive layers of zinc hydroxide, otherwise known as wet storage stain. Most wet storage
stain can be easily removed with a cleaner or nylon brush. To prevent wet storage stain, store
galvanized steel indoors or block it so that there is ample free flowing air between each galvanized
article.

Considering above, as seen from attached photos, these are not critical corrosion marks, and it is
accepted only as rust stain that will not affect service life of these towers.

IMPLEMENT PERMANENT CORRECTIVE ACTIONS

As Client representative observed and inspected cleaning process for removing rust stain from
galvanized article in site, our company in-charge employees can easily clean and remove that rust
stain from galvanized article surface with aid of the mixture of detergent and water, and nylon brush.
After cleansing process, wet surface will dried with proper cloth. It should be specially noted again
that this is NOT corrosion, so very thin layer of rust on surface due to wet storage in ambient
condition adjacent to Oil Refinery Plant, and can be easily removed off.

As a company of BETEKO GROUP LLC, we shall guarantee that this rust is not problematic for
steel structures and these items of towers will utilized more than 10 (ten) years. Also if any damage
is available on galvanized surface, we will change it properly.
