NEE, Network for Education Effectiveness, is the evaluations for our teachers and
principals. It goes over classroom observations of teachers, unite of instruction provided
by each teacher, professional Development Plan provided by each teacher, and student
surveys. Not all schools have to use this. There are 35 evaluations but schools narrow it
the number down. 1.2 evaluates over the teacher cognitively engaging in the content.
2.6 evaluates over the teacher incorporating students language culture, family, and
community. 4.1 evaluates over the teacher using instructional strategies that lead
students to problem-solving and critical thinking. This is the one used most often. It
makes sure the students are thinking and not just memorizing. Its not just what is
4+4? but how many ways can you make the number 4? You should start all lessons in
three intervals: Mini-lesson, independent, and share. Mini-lessons should be the
lecture. It is often 15 minutes in length. Independent is when you let the student work
on their own. This is when the teacher should be walking around to see how everyone is
doing. It should last 30-40 minutes. Sharing, which makes an impact should last around
5-10. Sharing out loud helps students grasp the concept. Share time should go with
mini-lesson. The teacher should correspond with what was taught in the lesson with
what is said during the sharing portion. Each teacher has 5 ten minutes observation and
post-observation conference with the principal afterward. You also turn in your teacher
professional development plan and unit of instruction. This tracks the students
progress through pre and posttests. Throughout every lesson, critical thinking is
important. It's thinking outside the box and using outside knowledge to make
predictions. Its NOT memorizing. Some kids arent good at memorizing and need to
apply it. Its also important that you dont cover way too much information. You have to
focus in on one thing. Overall, having Dr. Bridewell come to speak with us was very
informative.
