In this poetry book the sentences used free verse were very simplistic and straight to the point.
This allows for children to have a better understanding and overall comprehension of the book.
The sentences were maximum of only twelve simplistic words. Even though these words were
simplistic they were very descriptive and essential for a young reader to understand the topic.
Each word play and or stanza rhymed and had something to do with the young girls senses.
The book expresses, There is a road at the bottom of my foot walking me. This short
sentence of the story was an example of figurative language to the children. The different
elements and parts of the story teaches the child about their own senses and different common
this found in everyday life that can be personified.

CHARACTER Who is the main character? Explain the characters personality traits. How can the reader
relate to the character, become involved in the story?
Who are the supporting characters? Give examples of both.

The main character is a brown skinned young girl. She has a very wide and vivid imagination
and is very good with the skill of figurative language. She is the round character of the story
and only character presented. He is the typical young girl and has a love for bright colors and
anything in nature. Any reader can relate to this character rather big or small because of her
love and excitement of nature and her broad imagination. The reader can simply become
involved in this story by just closing their eyes and imagining themselves being in places only
ones mind can take them to.

1. PLOT: (Explains the major events in the story.) Summarize the plot
The plot expresses free verse and free imagination poetry, this book describes different free-
spirited setting that does not follow any certain guidelines. The plot ties both the imagination
and free verse poetry together while being very free. The order of the story is very
understandable but explores a variety of different settings and elements.

2. SETTING Explain the place and time of the book.


THEME- What is the storys theme or lesson?

Setting: There were multiple setting in the story. But the common theme of them all was being
out in nature during the spring time. Vibrant colors were also showed during each setting and
were executed very greatly.
Theme: The theme of There is a Flower at the Tip of My Nose Smelling Me is illusion versus
reality. Even though the young girl is enjoying herself figuratively and through her
imagination she is in an imaginative world, where nothing she is doing is essentially real.

ILLUSTRATION Analyze the illustrations in the book (see Chapter 4) with the categories below: Choose a 2-
page spread in the book to answer the following:
What Style (realism, surrealism, expressionism, impressionism, nave, cartoon art)? Expressionism
was the style presented in this story. Each image was followed by a text describing what the
young girl was imagining.

Median (paints, oils watercolors, pencil, pen, charcoal, crayons, acrylic, chalk): Colored pencils were used to
present the different vibrant colors shown.

Visual elements:
Line: The lines of text on each page varied. They werent usually on the same spot through each
page. One page they were on the top right-hand corner but in a flip of a page they were on the
bottom left. Thy were always very visible and in dark bolded colors such as black or white.
Shapes: Every shape imaginable was used to create the illustrations in the book. Semi-circles,
squares, straight-lines, triangles and a variety more.
Color: Very vibrant, bright, and exciting colors were used such as bright yellow, orange, blue,
purple and a complication of many more
Texture: Each page has a smooth signing image with a variety of different colors.

Explain how illustration and text are combined to tell the story. What do illustrations show that text does not
explain?
Illustration and text were combined to tell the story because they both worked together to
explore the young girls imagination and give better vibrant details on the matter at hand. The
text is the basis of the illustration but the illustration is in a sense the main story teller.

Describe the Page design: the borders, use of white/dark space, text placement & size, font, placement of illustrations:
Each page has no border but only the theme color relates to such as a bright mixture of orange
and yellow. There are no white or dark spaces on any page but each page is full of colors that
essentially tell a story than. The font size is at bout twenty in font sizes and is an abnormal
font. Although the font is very easy to read it is not the typical font to be used. Each
illustration is places largely on each page and is the focus through the book.

This poetry book was overall a very exciting read. The children reading this would be very
interested in this read due to the amazing exploitation of the poetry and its vibrate images. The
images presented were the main attraction and were unique and an eyeopener. Children can
essentially learn a lot about themselves through this story because of the explanations and
examples of different imaginations. This free verse poetry book was amazing and a great read
for anyone.
