"SAMPUNLA": Pagdiriwang sa Isang Dekada ng Tugtugang Musika Asyatika

Last month the UP Tugtugang Musika Asyatika had a concert in celebration for their 10th
year anniversary entitled Sampunla. I was amazed before i entered the room because most of
the asian instruments are displayed on the stage plus the lightings and the background is really
beautiful.

Whats interesting about the performance is how well they communicate to each while
playing. While i was observing them i can't find anyone whos giving cues to start playing. This
is also the first time i heard pieces like the halinhan, persatuan and the uruma. I also like the laot
piece which is played by 4 different kinds of lutes like the Ruan, Pipa from China and the
Kutyapi and the Bandurria from the Philippines. Its super fun to listen to it because you can
actually hear each one of the lutes individually.

I also like their starting piece which is called the Salidummay we listen to this song
currently on our MuL 10 class. It is indeed a popular song in the Cordillera Administrative
Region (CAR). The song is originally used for feasts and weddings. When they played this i was
surprised because they fused the song with non local instruments like the Japanese Koto, and the
Ruan, Pipa from China. I was really amazed by their performance because theyre showing how
thankful they are to watch their performance.
