Lab 1: On-line GIS Applications

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: [CO1 - PO3]

This exercise is designed to introduce a case of GIS application that does not require GIS
software for the user. Today GIS applications have become so common in our daily life
that in many cases we do not even know that we are using GIS for acquiring spatial
information. The objective of this laboratory exercise, therefore, is to demonstrate such a
case and to allow student undertake some simple GIS query.

SCENARIO ONE

This exercise is based on Hong Kong Google Map on-line geographical information site
that was developed by Google Inc.

Logon to Google Map

Use an Internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape) to connect the
website https://www.google.com.hk/maps/@22.3707841,114.1254094,11.56z?hl=en.

One of your friends lives in Tuen Mun; you want to visit him in this Saturday.

One major development project nearby is the Tsuen Wan Bay Reclamation.

The Tsuen Wan Bay Further Reclamation is planned for largely residential use, with
waterfront open space and promenade and ancillary GIC facilities. Implementation is
