A. Job Description

1. Purpose/Key Objectives of the Job

The main purpose of your activities is to deliver actionable insights based on the data.
To realize this, you will:
o Work as a part of data scientists team based in India reporting to lead in Amsterdam,
Netherlands.
o Work for customers and stakeholders spread across the globe enabling them to take
data based decisions.
o Design re-usable and scalable advanced analytical framework for the business units.
o Identify, extract, aggregate and prepare relevant data from multiple Information
Systems to enable successful analysis and modelling.
o Proactively search for internal and external data sources to enable successful analysis
and modelling.
o Use advanced level of visualization techniques to understand and describe the data.
o Perform descriptive analytics on the historical data identifying the trends and patterns
to highlight unusual behaviors.
o Identify, develop and apply mathematical, statistical, and econometric models
providing high level of accuracy and reliability.
o Interpret the outcomes of the statistical models & analysis and translate them into
sharp actionable items for the business.
o Supporting business to implement the actionable items by providing right and accurate
information timely.
o Perform root cause analysis to explain what and why has happened.
o Find the relevant indicators and apply/develop models by which future behavior can be
forecasted.
o Provide an intuitive and user-friendly way to analyze the possible future scenarios
including scenario analysis enabling efficient decision making process.
The results of your work will support the AkzoNobel Finance organization to better
understand what might happen in future, what future scenarios might mean to us, and what
can be done about this.

What decisions may the job holder make without first seeking approval from higher
manager/supervisor?

You work in a Medior or Senior Data Scientist role.

AkzoNobel expects from you excellent self-managing and communication skills to realize
successful and timely delivery of the projects and establish effective collaboration with the FP&A
Team in Amsterdam. Proactivity and transparency in work activities and communication are a must.

Ensure the appropriate framework and buildup of predictive modelling algorithms / tools.
Ensure the end results are clear, well visualized, well supported by analysis, are complete, non-
ambiguous, and delivered on time and in full.
Be a real result-driven Data Cruncher willing to learn new techniques, methods, tools, able to
quickly find required information and develop models.
Ensure a proper translation of business needs to the data and models, and from outcomes into
actionable insights that top-level management will seamlessly interpret.

5. Job Requirements
Masters degree in (applied) mathematics, statistics, econometrics, informatics,
business administration from a premier institute.
Total 7-10 years of broad and deep statistical domain experience into advanced
analytics space.
5-8 years of experience in statistical programming languages like R, Python.
4-6 years of experience in visualizing data/models using visualization tools like
Spotfire, Tableau, QlikView.
Knowledge of and practical experience in quantitative / predictive modelling using
techniques such as Time Series, Regression Analysis and Drivers based Modelling.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including
ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner.
Being a proactive person, willing to learn and develop yourself.
Being a result-oriented team-player who is able to convince people based on facts.
Solid approach to convert a Business Problem into Analytical problem and providing
Analytical Solutions.
Strong analytical skills with ability to analyze, organize, summarize, present, and
articulate complex processes and enabling data based decision making.
Able to prioritize and work with multiple internal customers & stakeholders across
multiple geographies.
Highly self-driven, result-oriented and motivated with strong can-do mentality to
accomplish business goals.
Excellent Excel knowledge (power-user) incl. VBA.
Knowledge of SAP (including Business Warehouse/Business Objects) is preferred.
Knowledge of Hyperion (HFM) is preferred.
Experience in Change Management & Problem Solving Methodologies in a
finance environment is preferred.
