PANEL 1
Yugoslavia a Missed Opportunity or
a Political Illusion?

JUGOSLAV KOSTI
Jugoslav Kosti was a member of the Presidency of the SFRY from 1991 to
1992. Previously he hold a number of leading positions in the Autonomous
Province of Vojvodina, including the position of the President of the Provincial
Presidency. After the formation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, he was
the President of the Citizens Council of the Federal Assembly and then the Am-
bassador of the FRY to Romania.

VASIL TUPURKOVSKI
Vasil Tupurkovski was a Macedonian member of the SFRY Presidency in the
period from 1990 to 1991. At the beginning of his political career he was the
president of the Union of Socialist Youth of Yugoslavia. After the breakup of the
SFRY, he continued his academic career in Skopje as a professor of the interna-
tional law. He is the founder of the party Democratic Alternative, and in the
period from 1999 to 2000 he served as the Vice-President of Macedonia.

AZEM VLLASI
Azem Vllasi is a former high state and party ofcial in the SFRY. From 1974 to
1978, he was the president of the Union of Socialist Youth of Yugoslavia, and he
also performed a number of leading positions in the party and provincial bodies
in Pristina. At the end of 1988 he was actively opposed to the announced politi-
cal and constitutional changes in Serbia, and therefore he spent some time in
jail. He continued his career as a lawyer and in recent years as an advisor to
several Albanian political leaders in Pristina.

VLADIMIR KARAOREVI
Yugoslav Prince Vladimir Karaorevi is the son of the Prince Andrej
Karaorevi and the grandson of the King Aleksandar Karaorevi. He lived
in the UK where he was born, as well as in Portugal and Germany. Vladimir
visited Serbia for the rst time in 1991 and during the wars in the former Yugo-
slavia he started to engage in humanitarian work. During the NATO Aggression
against the FRY, Vladimir established a charity organization "Mother and Child".

MIA URKOVI
Mia urkovi is a scientic associate at the Institute for European Studies in
Belgrade, where he is the head of the institute's core project and the editor of
the scientic forum. He graduated, nished master studies and received the
PhD degree from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade. During
2005, he was a Political Affairs Advisor at the Ofce of the Prime Minister of the
Republic of Serbia, and during the same year he was secretary of the State
Council for Kosovo and Metohija. In the period from 2006 to 2008, he was an
adviser to the President of the Serbian list of Andrija Mandi in Montenegro.

From The Corfu Declaration and

PREDRAG MARKOVI
Predrag Markovi is a Serbian historian, a scientic adviser at the Institute for
Contemporary History in Belgrade and a lecturer at several Faculties.
He deals mainly with the social history of Yugoslavia, especially with the histo-
ry of Belgrade in the 20th century, and his eld of scientic interest is also the
history of the collapse of socialist Yugoslavia.

BOIDAR JEZERNIK
Boidar Jezernik is a Slovenian ethnologist and anthropologist, a professor at
the Department of Ethnology at the Faculty of Philosophy (University of Ljublja-
na). He is the author of several books and scientic studies, including "Wild
Europe: Balkans in the eyes of the Western travelers".

DRAGAN UKANOVI
Dragan ukanovi is a professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in
Belgrade, and a long-time scientic associate of the Belgrade Institute for the
International Politics and Economy. He is the author of a large number of scien-
tic studies, including "The Balkans in the Post-Cold War Crossroads" and
"Institutional Models and Democratization of the Post-Yugoslav States".

NENAD KECMANOVI
Nenad Kecmanovi is a Serbian politician, political analyst, sociologist, profes-
sor of political sciences. He was the rector of the University of Sarajevo as well
as a full-time professor and dean at the University of Banja Luka and a profes-
sor and head of the Department for Politicology at the Faculty of Political
Science (University of Belgrade). He is a member of the Senate of the Republic
of Srpska and of the Russian Academy of Political Sciences in Moscow. He is a
co-author of monographs "The History of the Republic of Srpska" and numer-
ous scientic studies, including "Impossible State", "Ideology and Truth", "Poli-
tics in the Critical Mirror" ...
MUHAREM BAZDULJ
Muharem Bazdulj is a writer, translator and journalist, and is one of the most
famous younger generation writers on the territory of the former Yugoslavia.
He is an associate of several newspapers in Serbia and other countries in the
former Yugoslavia, and the winner of the Stanislav Staa Marinkovi journalist
award.

NEMANJA STAROVI
Nemanja Starovi is an historian and journalist, author of "Ino-strane" show on
RTV Vojvodina. He is the author of the book "Middle East, short and clear" for
which he received the "Dragia Kaikovi" award in the eld of publicity.

Religion in the Balkans A Point of
Connection or a Point of Contention?

PORFIRIJE PERI
Porrije (born Prvoslav) is an archibishop of Zagreb-Ljubljana and a former
vicar bishop of Jegar in the Baka diocese. He was a bishop of the army and
then a coordinator for the cooperation of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the
Serbian Army. He is the President of the Foundation Privrednik and former
president of the Council of the Radio Broadcasting Agency of Serbia.

ABDULAH NUMAN
Abdulah Numan is a Serbian mufti. He is one of the founders of the World Con-
ference of Religions for Peace (WCRP) and a participant of numerous interna-
tional conferences dedicated to inter-religious dialogue.

STANISLAV HOEVAR
Stanislav Hoevar is a Belgrade archbishop. He served as the President of the
Bishop Conference of FR Yugoslavia. At the time of the NATO aggression
against the FRY he launched the initiative "Peace upon You, the Balkans" as
well as the Foundation for assistance for the families with multiple children
"Anas balance".

SANJA LUBARDI
Sanja Lubardi is an editor and TV presenter at Studio B. She is a journalist in
ecclesiastical media, such as "Pravoslavlje", Svetigor Radio Station and "Slovo
ljubve", and is also a consultant in the eld of communication and public rela-
tions.
