Cut pipe cleaners in half the night before, and make into groups of 20
Lay out materials during lunch, so they are ready at the start of science
PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
Do attendance after lunch, then have students come to the carpet. 5-10
At the carpet, introduce the challenge. The similarities to other building min
challenges are that they only have a set amount of materials to build with, they
are trying to build a free-standing tower, and they are looking to see which
shapes are stable. The only difference is that they will now be doing the
challenge on their own.
Briefly go through worksheet with students, answering any questions they may
have.
Body Time
Start 10
worksheet 1) At their desks, they will answer the first 3 question and draw a min
sketch of their plan (quiet time).
Finish 10
worksheet 1) Students will answer the rest of the questions on their min
worksheet, reflecting on the experience, and what they found
challenging.
Conclusion Time
Hand in worksheet. 10
Clean up- take apart their towers. min
When done meet at carpet for social studies.
Assessment
Summative: Students worksheets. I will check to see if they have answered all the
sections of the worksheet, and if it is to the best of their abilities.
