CORE SKILL 1:

ISO AND TIME OF

DAY
ISO AND TIME ISO 100 ISO 800

OF DAY
ISO stands for International Standards Organization. It is a scale for
measuring sensitivity to light. As you increase the ISO, the sensor be-
comes more sensitive to light, which allows it to capture more light with-
out slowing down the shutter speed or opening up your aperture. The ISO
number ranges from 100 to 1600. The most common one used by pho-
tographers is 100 because it produces clean and noise free photographs.

Tine of day relates to the The golden hour which is roughly the first hour
of light after sunrise, and the last hour of light before sunset. This type of
light produces less contrast, so strong shadows and blown out highlights.

AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS:
TIME:
These photos will be taken during the day as they will be photographs of people in
environments- outside.
PLACE:
This photoshoot will be taken in Iceland, in different locations i will be visiting during
my time out there.
VIEWPOINT:
This photoshoot will be based around ISO and Time of Day so it does not matter
which viewpoint it will be. However, it is good to use different angles to make the
photographs more interesting.
LIGHTING:
The lighting will be natural lighting as the images will be taken outside so that it re-
lates to the purpose of the photograph (ISO AND TIME OF DAY) I will also be tak-
ing photographs of different environments so artificial lights cannot be used.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this photoshoot is to show how people influence different environ-
ments. This photoshoot is contrasting the photoshoot linking to location and props.
I would like to show peoeples possession: the world in a good way by showing the
beaauty of Iceland and its environments.

TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
HEALTH AND SAFETY: (Hazards)
I will be near lakes, waterfalls, rocks and many hazardous areas so i will need to be
careful that i wont hurt my self or slip. Not only me, but also the poeple i will be pho-
tographing. Make sure they are safe.
SAFEGUARDING:
As some of the people i will be photographing are under age i will need to ask for
parental consent, However, some of them are over 18 so i will just need their concent.
EQUIPMENT USE:
I will be using my camera which is a canon D40. Other than that i wont need a tripod
or lamps for lighting just the models and props such as clothes.

Thoughts on the shot

In my opinion this is my best photogrph due to its creeativity, lighting and reflection. The imgage is from a
an angle that shows the reflection of the glaciar in the water but also shows the silhuouttes of the people
walking along the lake in front of the glaciar. The lighting is really nice as there is a clear contrast between
the water and the ground- one is really bright whereas the other is really dark.

Thoughts on the shot

This photograph isnt very good as it is overxposed hence it is out of focus. Also the viewpoint isnt excit-
ing or gives the waterfall justice. It isnt very interesting as it is just showing the water fall as a whole and
doesnt use any good angles. This is because of the camera settings. If the ISO was lower the image wouldnt
have been too overexposed or blurry.

Thoughts on the shot

This image was unexpected and ended up being really good because of its bckground. It has a foreground,
middle ground and background which in my opinon makes it really interesting as you can see the rocks in
clear detail, the pink ground and then the poeple in the background that jus look like figures. This makes
the image really creative as you can tell it was taken from a lower angle which is also an important factor
of the photograph.
CAMERA
SETTINGS
The camera settings used in these photo-
graphs is what makes them look profes-
sional. The low aperture and low shut-
ter speed meant that the water looks like
it is blurry creating a slow motion effect.
The images look like they contain a cloud
when in fact it is the water just creating
that effect due to the low shutter speed.
I took the same image, both boys standing
on the same rock in front of the same wa-
terfall (background) in order to show how
the world and everything the world gives us
such as waterfalls, animals, moutnains, vol-
canoes and so on is EVERYONES posses-
sion. Both models stood in front of their pos-
session and had equal rights to call it theirs.

This relates to the idea that some super-

powers in our world think they own cer-
tain things. Linking to geography, Water
is a key issue in the world as there isnt
enough clean and safe water for everyone.
1.8 billion poeple lack clean water linking
to 2.4 lacking good sanitation and other
0.7 billion face water shortages. Peoples
health, welfare and livlihoods depend on
secure supplies of freshwater but high de-
mand and the misuse of water resources
put these at risk. Many areas rely on the
same river creating a lot of conflict as they
aries at the top of the river build dams to
save their water affecting the poeple down
soouth. I think this is unfair as the wa-
ter should be for everyone, some people
misuse it even though it is there to share.
Apart from rivers and lakes that are formed from water melting from mountais, water
also falls as precipitaton which is a key way of obtaining freshwater. In these images
i took photographs of two girls in Iceland. In all 3 photographs i am focusing on the
clothes they are wearing. As you can see they are both wearing warm, thick and what
seems to be waterproof coats. This links to my idea of water as they are people from
third world countries where water is not a problem and they abuse the fact that it isnt
a problem for them. Comparied to countries such as Bolivia or California, they would
love to have water and appreciate the rain due to the amount of droughts they face.

In these photographs, colour is also a key factor. The top two are in black and white
comparing to the bottom one that is in colour. I think the best edit is the one in colour.
Although this image was edited with a pink hue and pink saturation, it makes the im-
age stand out and making it interesting as there is a combination of brown, pink and
yellow in the photograph.

Cropping was also used in these photographs to make them look more ef-
fective. The top right is showing the background and the river behind them
whereas the other 2 are cropping their faces and just showing the clothes
they are wearing. I think the images that are croopped are better as well be-
cause they go straight to the point and dont have anything distracting them.
The viewpoint and focus is what I like
about this photograpah. The fact that this
photograph was taken behind a rock is
what makes it more interesting. The rock
is out of focus even though it is covering
most of the image. In addition, I like the
contrast between the focus. The rock is out
of focus and the models arent, giving you a
clue of what is more important in the pho-
tograph. In terms of the rule of thirds, the
models in the middle would be the most
important things in the photograph; they
attract your eye. The blue background
also makes the image more effective as
most of the other objects in the photo-
graph are black or grey. The blue brings
out the happinesss of the photograph.

BEST PHOTO WORST PHOTO
In my opinion this is the best photograph due to the lighting and viewpoint. The angle this image was tak-
