Grade/Subject: 4 FSL Unit: Seasons Lesson Duration: 1 hour

Overview of lesson:
The students will be able to learn the names of the seasons in French, and have opportunities to
relate the corresponding months and weather to the seasons. We will go over the names of the
seasons, play a four corners game, match the seasons to weather and the months and finally they
will work through some pages from the FrenchSmart book.
General Learning Outcomes:
Experience (Gr. 4) Given the following fields of experience and the subfields within each field,
and other areas of interest, students will engage in various language activities, based on the
context, the communicative task and the different information and communication technologies
available.
Seasons
Language Learning Strategies (Gr. 4) Students will use their knowledge of strategies to enhance
learning and to communicate in French.

PROCEDURE
Introduction ( 10 min.):
Hook/Attention Grabber:
For the first group I will do an introduction of myself to the class, so that they can get to
know me a bit better
Assessment of Prior Knowledge:
I will ask the students if they remember what the seasons are in French
We will do a brief over view of the months and weather

Expectations for Learning and Behavior:
The students will be able to remember the names of the four seasons in French
They will be able to associate the months and weather to the appropriate seasons
The students will ask questions for clarification when needed
They will repeat the vocabulary when instructed to
Advance Organizer/Agenda:
Transition to Body:
Brief slide show about the four seasons in French
Body ( 40 min.):
Learning Activity #1:
Tell the students that there are pictures/the name of the seasons in each corner of the room
First tell them that you will say the name of the season in French and they will need to
move to the appropriate corner
Repeat until the students can quickly move to the right corner once hearing the word
To increase the difficulty, let them know that you will give a description of the seasons in
French using either the weather or months
Once theyve decided which season it is the students will need to move to the appropriate
corner
Assessments/Differentiation:
Allows me to see if the students can understand the months and weather that correspond to
the seasons by only listening
An engaging way to learn about the seasons in French
Provides the students who might be struggling an opportunity to model what their peers are
doing
Learning Activity #2:
Using the SmartBoard, the students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the
seasons
I will ask for the students to tell me which pairs match
Assessments/Differentiation:
Allows me to easily see if the students can match the weather and months to the
corresponding seasons
Provides a visual aid
Learning Activity #3:
Handout sheets from the FrenchSmart book (pg. 85-87)
Ask the students to work through them
Let them know that if they need help they can work through the sheets together or ask me
Play French music while the students are working

I can check to see if they are able to write the seasons and associate images with the
seasons
