Why is so important to study interpersonal communication

Interpersonal communication comprises the ability to promote friendship, to resolve a conflict, to


comfort someone in need and to answer questions clearly.

interpersonal communication refers more specifically to communication that occurs between people
and creates a personal bond between them.

Connect. A connection between people.

Personal. The personal qualities that any of the speaker brings about to the conversation.

The key factor in interpersonal communication is personal interaction.

5 characteristics of personal communication


1. A continuous process. In other words, a continuum exchanges of messages.
2. Dynamic process. meanings change and unfold over time, and previous messages affect how
subsequent messages are created and understood
3. Consequential. It produces consequences whether deliberated or not. Common
consequences are learning, helping, influencing, relating, playing, etc.
