Training... 26s Page 3 of 11 © DMR Electrical Standards & Design Wing DMES-E/0004 12 13 Specifications For Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning of Fire Hydrant System Detailed description a ion in DMRC Fire Hydrant System is to be provided at the elevated stations (Rail Corridor) of DMR to meet the exigencies during fire at station, Fire hydrant system is such provided that it meets the requirement of water to extinguish fire at every location of the stations such as + Platforms + Concourse * Circulating Area + Service/Technical Rooms + PD Areas, if any The scope of work shall cover supply, fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning Of the fire hydrant system covering the following but not limited to: a. Fire Hydrant electric pumps as shown in the BOQ, drawings and as required. b. Jockey pump, electric criven as shown in the equipment schedule, drawings and as required ©. Deleted, d. Hydrant mains, extemal ring and yard hydrants, @, Wet risers in the building as specified and shown on drawings. f. Landing vaives, hose ree's, hose cabinets etc. 9. Fite brigade breaching, siamese connections and connections to pumps and appliances. ‘The contractor shall get the Fire Fighting System approved by the Fire Authority having Jurisdiction. Page 4 of 12 Se DMRC Electrical Standards & Design Wing DMES-E/0004 pecifications For 2. 24 22 344 342 313 Supply, Installation, Testing Governins ns, The fie hydrant instalation shall conform to and maet with the requirements set cut by the followings 1 1S'3844-1989 Code of practice for installation of internal fire hydrant in mutt-storied building 2 NBC PartV National Building Code Part-IV: Fire Safaty System 3 IS: 6290 ~ Specification for landing vaives 1993 4 Compliance with the local fire brigade and the fire enforcing authorities as specifically laid down by them, 5 1S: 12685 Specification for Thermoplastic Hoses ‘All the standards mentioned above as well as referred to in the document elsewhere shall be latest Functional Requirements Fire Pump The fire pump shall be single stage / double mult: stage suction centrifugal type with split casing type and direct driven by electric motor or diesel engine as specified. The pump rating and performance shall conform to the Squipment schedule and meet the TAC duty requirements, The pumps should be with mechanical seal of reputed make Pump casing shall be of close-grained cast iron with bronze impeller. The shaft sleeve shall be brass or SS 304 and the trim shall be brass or bronze, Pump shall be capable of delivering 180% of the rated capacity at 65% of the rated head and the no-delivery head shall be not more than 140% (150% in case of end ‘Suction type) of the rated delivery head. The pump casing shall withstand 1.5 times the no-delivery pressure or 2 times of the duty pressure whichever is higher Page 5 of 11 Ee DMRC Electrical Standards & Design Wing OMES-E/0004 Specifications For Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning of Fire Hydrant Sys 3.1.4 The pump shall be electrically driven with diract fiexible ‘coupling, 34.5 The electric drive motor shall be squirrel cage induction conforming to IS: 325-1996 and i ‘ated for continuous duty (S41). Motor shall have not less than class F insulation and ‘inimum enclosure of |F22 The starter shall be air-cooled fully automatic star delta or autotransformer type. Starters shall conform to relevant IS standard and rated for AC-3 duty conditions. 316 Drive rating shail be based on the largest ofthe folowing a. Rated pump discharge at rated head & b. 150% of rated discharge @ 65% of rated head © Maximum power absorbed by the pump in its opereting cange i.e no-delivery to free discharge. 32 Pump Foundation - Foundation of pumps in Fire Pump rooms shoud be of Considerable height so that these are not submerged in case of overflow. 33 Accessories 33.1 The Fire Pumps shall be complete with the following accessories: . The pressure switch shall be Snap ection SP DT switch rated 10A @ 230 V operated through @ stainless steal Gaphragm. The switch shall have a pointer for manual adjustment of set point, and all electrical connections shall be terminated in a screwed terminal connector. The entire unit Shall be encased in a cold drawn steel (heavy gauge) enclosure. The diaphragm shal be designed for a maximum operating pressure of the system. Each pressure switch shall be Provided with a pressure gauge in paralel as shown on the drawings and all gauges and Page 6 of 11 © OMRC Electrical Standards & Design Wing DME: Speciti Supply, installation, ing & Commissioning of Fire Hydrant System pressure switches shall be mounted in an instrument Panel with necessary control piping: and drainage faclty 34 System operation and control panels 3.41 The fire pump shall be started automatically on loss of prossure and the peretion ‘Sequence of the booster and fire pumps shall be as follows: 3 Jockey Pump shall start when the system pressure drops by 0.35 kg/em2 and stop when the system pressure is re-established. 5. The Fire Purp shall start when the system pressure drops by 1.0 kglcm2 end shall continue to run tll manually switched off. © Jockey and fire pump starting shall be indicated on the panel with a red indication lamp. 342 The motor starters (direct on line or stardelta) shall consist of electrically actuated Contactors. The starter shall be complete with ON-OFF push buttons, timers and auxliary contacts and shail be fully automatic. There shall be an indicating lamp with each of the PUMPS anc an ammeter and selector switch with the fe pumps. Fire pump starting shell be annunciated through an electric siren, 3.43 The starter along with isolator shall be housed in a 14 SING MS box duly rust inhibited at through a process of degreasing and phosphating, 3.4.4 All cabling to and from the pumps to starter and conttol switch shall be carried out through armoured PVG XLPE cables of approved makes. Cables shall be laid in accordance with section "MV CABLING". The pump metors and panels shall be double earthed in ‘secordance with IS 3043-1987 or 2s shown on drawings and as approved. 3.5 Fire hydrants and hose reels 3.5.1. Hydrants shall be provided internally and externally as shown on the drawings. intemal hydrants shall be provided at each landing of and escape staircase and additionally ‘depending on the floor area as shown on drawings. Landing valve shall have flanged inlet and instantaneous type outlets and mounted at 1.0m above the floor level. Instantaneous outlets for the hydrants shall be of standard pattern approved and suitable for 6mm diameter fite brigade hoses. Wherever necessary, pressure reducing orifices plate shall be provided so as to limit the pressure to 3.5 kg/om? or any other rating as required by the Local Fire Authority Each landing vaive shall have a hose reel cabinet as shown on drawings. 2. Landing valve with single 63 mm diameter outlet and 80 mm diameter inlet. b. Firstaid hose reel with 45 m long 25 mm diameter high pressure thermo plastic (IS: 12585 marked) with 25 m diameter Ball Valve. ¢. 2 nos. 15-meter long 38 mm diameter synthetic hoses ( UL listed ) with SS IS marked instantaneous couplings. d. One SS branch pipe. ‘The First Aid Hose pipe shall conform to IS: 12585 and be wound on a heavy-duty circular hose drum confirming to |S :884 ~ 1985 with a bracket. The hose shail be permanently connected on one end to the Wet Riser through a 25m Ball Valve with necessary hose adapter and a SS nozzle at the other end. Hoses shall be in two lengths of 15 m each, of synthetic type ( UL listed ) with instantaneous couplings, neatly rolled into bundles and held in position with steel brackets. Hoses shail be tested and certified by the manufacturer to withstand an intemal water pressure of not less than 35 kg/om2 without bursting. The hose shall also withstand @ working pressure of 7-kg/ em? without leakage. ‘The hose cabinet shall be fabricated from mild stee! sheet / stainless steel sheet / aluminium sheet. The cabinet shall have double flap-hingad doors with 55 mm clear glass and shall have necessary openings for riser main and brackets for all intemals. The cabinet shall be provided with suitable and robust locking arrangement. ‘The Hose Cabinet shall be fabricated from any ofthe following ( 28 per Bo ) Page 8 of 11 Se DMRC Electrical Standards & Design Wing DMES-E/0004 Specificati 357 358 359 6. ‘or Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning of Fire Hydrant System ‘A 2mm thick MS sheet duly rust inhibited through a process of degreasing and phosphating and painted in red colour. B 2mm thick stainless steel sheet ¢. 3mm thick aluminium sheet powder coated to red colour. External hydrants shall be as per IS: 5200 with hand whee! control and an 60 mm diameter pipe stand post, Hydrants shall be located at least 2m away from and within 15m from the building wall Each hydrant shall be provided with a hose cabinet containing 2 x 15m 38 mm diameter synthetic hoses with couplings. The cabinet shall contain a branch pipe and nozzle. The atinet shall be 600 x 450 x 300 mm fabricated out of 2 mm stainless stee! steel sheet or Powder coated 3 mm thick aluminium sheet. The cebinet shall be wall-mounted or freestanding with its own steel legs depending on the site conditions and as shown on drawings and as approved. The fire brigade connection shall consist of four headed inlets, as spectiad in BOQ, 63mm diameter outlets with builtin check valve and drain plugs connected to @ 150mm diameter ‘outlet connection to the water reservoir or to the hydrant main. The fire. brigade collecting bread shall conform material and performance to IS: 904-1883 “Specification for 2-way and 3-way suction collecting heads for fre fighting purposes" Additional Requirements: None, Safety: None. Eneray Efficiency: Not Applicable. Maintenance and Life: NA and icturins Quality Assurance and Controls: The Contractor's Management Systems shall emphasize quality assurance and controls. The programme shall be adequate to ensure an acceptabie level of quality of the equipment supplied. The concept of total quality Page 9 of 12 8 DMRC Electrical Standards & Design Wing DMES-E/0004 ‘Specifications For Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning of Fire Hydrant System assurance shall be based on the principle that quality is a basic responsibility of the ‘Contractor's organization, and shall be visible by 1. Firm procurement and job performance specifications. 2. Firm procedures for transmission of information and data to their Subcontractors and ensuring their compliance. 3. Adequate testing to ensure repetitive product conformity to design requirements and Total programme of surveillance and verification of physical performance and configuration accountability, 4, Adequate records shall be kept by the Contractor to provide evidence of quality and accountability. These records shall include results of inspections, tests, process & Controls, certfication of processes and personnel, discrepant material, and other ‘quality control requirements. ‘5. Complaint Handling and commitment towards customer satisfaction. 9. Testing 8.1 The Jackey & fire pump starting and stopping shall be tested by opening the test valve and ‘record the following end the valves should be as furnished below: 1 Jockey pump start / stop ‘System pressure at start-up System pressure at stop Time elapsed from start to stop 2. Highest outlet 3.6 kg/om’ 8.3 All the operating tests shall be carried out to the satisfaction of Authority having Page 10 of 11 DMES-E/0004 9.4.1 Hydrant pump with mounting frame excluding concrete foundation shall be measured per unit 9.4.2 Jockey pump - same as hydrant pump. 94.3 Instrument panel with pressure gauges, pressure switches, control piping etc. shall be measured as one unit. 9.4.4 Control cabling from pressure gauge panel to the respective starters shall be measured in Tuning meter and paid at unit rates, 10. Training 10.1. The contractor shall ensure training of DMRC staff as desided by DMRC at OMRC workplace or at his workplace as considered necessary. 10.2 On completion of inetallation, the manufacturer shall supply two sets of well bound handing over manuals duly approved by Consultantsi&ngineer-in-charge. Each set shall include:- + As Bult Drawings, * Do's and Don'ts for the maintenance and operating staff. * Working details of Fire Hydrant System. * Operating manual + Extracts of the warrant/DLP * Details of service center. * List of steff trained on the said design of the Fire Hydrant System. + The first page of the booklet shall be signed by the manufacture, contractor and DMC Engineer. + Soft copy of the entire documents, Page 11 of 11 a 7 a a
