1) A 5-6 yr old division Games will consist of four quarters of 8 minutes in length. B.

7-8 yr old division games will


consist of four quarters of 10 minutes in length. The clock will run except during time-outs, injuries and mandatory
substitutions.
2) Each team gets two 30 second time-outs per half with no carry-over.
3) There will be one minute between quarters and 3 minutes between halves.
4) No player may play 3 consecutive quarters if there are substitutes who have not played 2 quarters. All players must
play ½ of each game.
5) Each player should start the first quarter of AT LEAST HALF of the team’s games.
6) Fouls will be called but they will not count as personal fouls and no player will be disqualified.
7) All teams must play a MAN-TO-MAN defense only. Each player must be within 5 feet of the player he/she is
guarding. Double teaming and traps are only allowed in the lane and only on the player who controls the ball.
8) When the defensive team establishes possession, the shooting team must retreat beyond the half-court line.
9) Passes are allowed to be stolen only when the basketball passes the half-court line.
10) The first illegal defense will cause a warning to be issued to the bench of the offending team. Repeat illegal
defenses will result in a technical foul.
11) All technical fouls are 2 shot fouls. The shooting team gains possession at mid-court after the foul shots.
12) Two technical fouls against a player or coach will be an automatic ejection from the game and a one game
suspension from the next scheduled game. All spectator fouls will count against the coach’s technical fouls.
13) There will be a jump ball at the start of the game. In all ensuing jump ball situations, possession will alternate.
14) Coaches must stay on the bench and may not approach officials on the game floor. Only one coach can be standing
at a time.
15) Jerseys must be tucked in at all times. All jewelry must be removed before tip-off.
16) One team each game will be asked to provide a volunteer to help with official timekeeping.
17) Any excessive, abusive, or inappropriate behavior on the part of a player, coach, or spectator will result in a
conference with the Sports Director and possible dismissal from the YMCA Youth Sports program without refund.

Special Rules

1) Games will be played on 8-foot baskets.


2) There will be NO OVERTIME play in any age group.
3) Junior size balls will be used. (27.0 weight)
4) The referee will stop the clock at the halfway mark of each quarter for the mandatory substitutions of players. The
substitution period is limited to substitutions only. 1 coach per team on the court for this brief stoppage.
5) Stealing the dribble or reaching in for any reason, including to tie up for a jump ball, is not allowed.
6) From the moment possession is established in the backcourt, the ten-second backcourt rule will be enforced.
7) No 3 second lane violations will be called.
8) Double dribbling and traveling are violations and will be called more progressively throughout the season.
9) On occasion, one or more officials may stop play to explain a call or rule. This will be to assist in the development
of each team.
10) Score will not be kept.
11) Free throws may be shot for shooting fouls.
12) Four corner or other offenses that create one on one situation are not allowed.
