The Eucharist: For an Aged Care Setting

The peace of the Lord be with you.

And also with you.
(An invitation to share the Peace – as you are able)

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Great Prayer of Thanksgiving

Generous life giving God
who breathed breath into all of creation -
it is always the right time and place to praise you.

Thank you life affirming God

that you love us more than we can ever imagine.
Thank you that your love for us never ends.

Thank you life sustaining God

for our relationship with your son Jesus.
He lived his life in community
just as we share our lives with each other here in this place.
He died on the cross to free us from sin.
and rose again that we might share in eternal life.

Holy God,
we are always in your presence.
Here in this place, at this time,
our voices unite with the saints of all ages
in celebration and adoration of you
and we say together -

Holy, holy, holy Lord.

God of power and might.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is the One

Who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

We thank you God of grace

that you love us no matter what –

whether we are young or old; male or female;

frail or able-bodied; serious or frivolous;
resolute in our relationship with Jesus
or just newly introduced -
your love for us is unconditional.

We thank you God that you encourage us

in our journey of life and faith -
whether our hands are smooth or rough;
whether our voices are strong or fragile;
whether our minds are active or forgetful;
throughout all the stages of our life
when we share the bread and wine.
we are encouraged to remember you.

On the night he was betrayed Jesus took bread;

and when he had given you thanks
he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
‘Take, eat. This is my body given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.’

After supper, he took the cup;

and again giving you thanks
he gave it to his disciples, saying;
‘Drink from this, all of you.
This is my blood of the new covenant
shed for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it,
in remembrance of me.’ (see Mark 14:22-24; Matt 26:26-28; Luke 22:19-20; 1 Cor 11:23-25)

So we do as we have been asked.

We take this bread and this wine
And we remember.

Christ has died.

Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.

Triune God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit -

through the power of your Spirit,
let this bread and wine be for us
the body and blood of Christ.

The Breaking of the Bread

The gifts of God for the people of God.

(Distribution)

Prayer after Communion:

God of yesterday, today and tomorrow -
In our weakness we came to you
and you made us stronger with this meal.
You have nourished our bodies;
touched our hearts and
renewed our faith and hope in you.

May we embody your abundant love;

live in peace with you and each other
and look forward together in hope
this day and all our days. Amen.
