OurMissionOurPurpose1

With God’s help we strive to help Veterans and their families to lead fulfilling lives by providing a much
needed Christ centered peer support group, serving as a "one stop shop" for resources, special
interest discussions, service projects, and educating others.

- Provide fellowship to our veterans and their families who are facing challenges, with special attention
to those who have transitioned and struggling to reintegrate.
- Share the burden of having a loved one serving or has served in the military through group
discussions and social gatherings.
- Provide important resources of particular interests, becoming the “one stop shop” for assistance of all
kinds.
- Educate others with regards to the needs of these individuals and their families and the coping
strategies available.

The task ahead of you, is never as great as the power behind you.

We are Standing Strong Shoulder to Shoulder

And we are Stronger Standing Together then when we are standing alone.

Cherokee Veterans Community

2017 In Review

The Spark - The Honor All That

Passion
It is hard to believe that Cherokee Veterans Community is One Year Old already. Just a year ago God
placed a spark of an idea into Tim King’s heart and mind and look what happened.

When God gives you a vision it comes as a spark within you

When the spark becomes your dream it becomes the desire and passion within you
When that spark, dream, desire, and passion takes shape that others see, it becomes contagious
When it becomes contagious others catch what God has placed within you
When this happens God smiles and says “Go now and make it happen”
Now one year later Cherokee Veterans Community has become known in the community as one of the
leading ministries for veteran’s resources. Our “One Stop Shop”, as we like to call it, is offering
veterans multiple areas to find the assistance they need and deserve. The pillars of resources are
Employment, Education, Entrepreneurship, Financial Assistance, Health and Wellness and Family
Resources.
Cherokee Veterans Community has also joined other organizations to help veterans with home repairs
they are no longer able to complete for themselves. Some of these include building ramps for more
mobility, electronical and pluming issues to mention only a few.
As the months passed CVC has reached out to City Governments and to our County Commissioners in
Cherokee County to keep them apprised of what we were doing for our veterans. We asked for their
assistance and resources when we discover a veteran in need, to start the ball rolling to complete that
mission.
In July CVC started the first Male Veterans Support Group and on November 16th we have be able to
expand these support groups to include our Female Veterans and Family and Friends of Veterans

Support Groups. These groups provide a safe place for all groups to discuss areas in their lives that
might be causing difficulties and sticking points in their everyday lives.
Our vision and mission for the future is to have all 3 Peer Veterans Support Groups operational in
multiple city locations in the county. History shows if there is a group located within close proximity of
their homes veterans and families are more likely to attend these life changing groups.
Any organization or group can host these support groups simply by making a weekly location available
and to provide a veteran to lead the group. Operation Not Forgotten, the organization who created
Vet Life Community, will provide all the training needed to get started free of charge.
We are honored to join into a relationship with the Cherokee County Homeless Veteran Program.
This program physically searches out veteran’s, that for whatever reason, are homeless within our
county. CVC and CCHVP are fast becoming the “Tip of the Spear” for some of the many needs our
veterans have in Cherokee County. We look forward to making new relationships with other
organizations with the same heart and mind we share for our veterans.
We continue to reach into the community and CVC was able to obtain exposure through several
magazines and newspaper articles. RoundAbout magazine placed an article written by Susan Schulz
that appeared in all four of their publications (Woodstock, Townelake, Canton and Acworth). Visit: The
TowneLaker Magizine . In addition the Cherokee Tribune and Ledger newspaper both highlighted CVC
.
and CCHVP. Visit: The Tribune Ledger News
CVC has spoken at civic groups, VFW’s, American Legion’s, Reinhardt University, Chattahoochee Tech
and Church groups to gain further exposure about are mission and purpose and to invite them to join us
in our mission.
Along with all that God has place in our path for growth and service to our veterans, He most recently
provide a great outreach opportunity within Cherokee County. In December CVC had the opportunity to
be interviewed by 102.9 Grace WPCG-FM Canton. This interview allowed CVC to share our vision and
mission to hundreds of Cherokee County listeners.
This year will also be the first year we celebrated Christmas together. With the help of another ministry
partner we had the honor to celebrate Christmas with some of our senior veterans that are living in a
few nursing home in the area. We were (by God’s Grace and the generosity of the public) able to bring
gifts and fellowship to our veterans that served us well.
As you can see the Lord has provide so many opportunities to serve our veteran in our community.
Without His guidance and directions we could not have gotten this far. We are so grateful for the many
volunteers and organizations that have supported us this past year and look with anticipation for what
He will be providing in 2018. Return to Home

2017 Christmas

Sharing Christmas Together

The Christmas season comes with a lot of excitement. We shop for the family, we have parties, we
decorate the house and most importantly we focus on the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This year those of us at Cherokee Veterans Community added something else. We intentionally added
some of our senior military veterans to our list. This wasn’t just something else to do, no this was a
great HONOR and PRIVILAGE to let them know they are respected and that we appreciated their
military service, their sacrifice, and that they were NOT forgotten.
This Christmas CVC, with the help of others in the community enjoyed, fellowship, conversations and
gave out gifts to over 30 senior veterans living at two nursing homes close to FBC Woodstock. We
listened to some stories the veterans wanted to share about their military service, and through it all we
got something we weren’t expecting ……. We got blessed by them.

Showing Appreciation to our Veterans

VeteransAppreciation1
Our veterans come in all size, shapes, ages, and genders. However they all share one important
thing. They are deserving of our thanks, respect and gratitude for saying yes to service.
Regardless of the branch of service, length of service, MOS or location of service, they served and put
themselves in the position that if asked to place themselves in harm’s way for us and our freedom, they
said “Yes”
World War I (1917-1918) Total U.S. Service members (Worldwide) 4,734,991 Battle Deaths 53,402
World War II (1941 –1945) Total U.S. Service members (Worldwide) 16,112,566, Living Veterans

Korean War (1950-1953) Total U.S. Service members (Worldwide) 5,720,000, Living Veterans
2,275,000
Vietnam War (1964-1975) Total U.S. Service members (Worldwide) 8,744,000, Living Veterans

Desert Shield/Desert Storm (1990- 1991) Total U.S. Service members (Worldwide) 2,322,000, Living
Veterans 2,244,583
Global War on Terror (Oct 2001 - ) The Global War on Terror (GWOT), including Operation Enduring
Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), are ongoing conflicts.
Since the U.S. went to war in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, about 2.5 million members of the
Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and related Reserve and National Guard units have been
deployed in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
As of last September, more than 1.6 million military members who’d been deployed in what’s classified
as the global war on terror – in Iraq and Afghanistan, primarily – had transitioned to veteran status, VA
records show. Of those, about 1 million were from active-duty service and about 675,000 from Reserve
or guard deployments.
Saying Thank You really isn’t enough…..but we still say “Thank You”.

Growing Deeper
Sinking our roots in the soil of His Word

Going Deeper in our faith (Father, Son & Spirit) is something that has been sought by Christians since
Christ walked the earth. It is natural for Christians to desire, and to experience the closeness of an
intimate relationship with God. But true intimacy with God is not simply a feeling on a par with a romantic
relationship. It goes much deeper than emotions, it goes down to our very soul and is reflected by our
actions. True intimacy with God begins with drawing near to Him.
This area of the Cherokee Veterans Community Newsletter, is devoted to sharing some of the many
different ways we can: Grow Deeper with God.
You will be linked to different websites, audio or video files that we pray will help us all to walk closer,
deeper and with more intimately with our Heavenly Father, the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Enjoy the Journey. Enjoy the Relationship. Enjoy the Intimacy.

This Morning I Heard His Word say: 1 Peter 4:10 Good News Translation 10 Each one, as a good
manager of God's different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift he has received from
God.
