Prerequisites

Prerequisites
• Before you install FLIR Tools:

• Check the file type compatibility. FLIR Tools supports the following
file formats:

Organize
Do the following exercises.
Connect your camera to your computer using an USB cable. For some camera mod-

els you need to set the USB mode to Mass Storage Device (MSD).
Start FLIR Tools and select the Library tab. ¨

Add an existing folder to the Folder pane by right-clicking on Folders. ¨

Create a subfolder in a existing folder by right-clicking on the specific folder. ¨
Click Import to transfer images from your camera to your computer to an existing
folder or to a new folder. ¨
Click on an IR image to select it. The image and related information will be displayed
in the pane to the right. Select between viewing an IR image or digital photo only ¨
or the entire group, and observe how the displayed results change.
Delete an image and a folder. ¨
Analyze
Double-click on a thermal image to select it. ¨

Use the tools displayed on top of the image to add/remove spots, areas, lines, and
alarms. ¨
Adjust the level and span. ¨
Create text annotations. ¨
Change the object parameters. ¨
Change the palette.

In the Options menu, turn on/off Hide cold and hot spot.

In the Options menu, change the units for temperature and distance. ¨
Open a thermal image with fusion or picture-in-picture and change the attributes. ¨
Save the image with new features. ¨
Report

In the Options menu, select Report and customize your default document
settings. ¨

To create a report or image sheet, select one or more images in the image window,
right-click and select Create report or Create image sheet. The report or im-
age sheet will automatically open in the Report tab.

Alternatively, select the image(s) and
• click Generate report to create a report or

• click the down arrow to the right of Generate report and select
between Create report and Create image sheet.
The report or image sheet will automatically open in the Report tab.

Images in the current folder are displayed in the bottom pane. Select another folder
or images of a specific date. ¨
Create an empty report consisting out of one cover page and different content
pages. ¨
Report
Drag the images from the bottom pane in the report and drop them in the appro-
priate placeholders. ¨
Customize your report:

• Add text annotations, free text and markers.
• Move your report elements and use the grid to align them.
• Reorder the pages.
• Edit the header and footer
• Change the logo (there are several ways to do it).
¨

• Resize the images.
• Update measurements and see the updates instantly in the result table.
• Use the zoom function.
• Delete at least one report page.
Export your report; it will be saved in PDF format in the same folder that is selected
in the bottom pane. ¨
Print your report. ¨
Live streaming
You can use FLIR Tools to stream a thermal camera’s live image. When the camera is
connected, you can lay out measurement tools, change parameters, create plots, etc.

Connect your camera to your computer using an USB cable. For some camera mod-
els you need to set the USB mode to Mass Storage Device (MSD). ¨
Start FLIR Tools and select the Camera tab. ¨

To enable live streaming and camera control, click the Connect button. ¨

Do the following:
• Add, change, move and delete measurement tools.
• Click the Freeze button to pause the live image stream.
• Change the object parameters in the parameter’s value field
and press Enter to save the changes.

• To create a plot, lay out an area, richt-click the area and then
select Plot and the type of plot.
• Zoom and pan.
Update
You can use FLIR Tools to update FLIR Tools with the latest service
packages and to update your camera with the latest firmware.

NOTE
This is valid for the following camera models: Exx/Exxbx, T4xx/T4xxbx, T6xx/T6xxbx.
To update FLIR Tools,

• start the program,

• on the Help menu, select Check for updates and follow
the on-screen instructions.
To update your thermal camera,
• connect your camera to your computer using an USB cable,
• start the FLIR Tools, ¨
• on the Help menu, select Check for updates and follow
the on-screen instructions.
Tips and tricks
• When the images are imported, file associations will be kept. This
is valid for IR image and digital photo, text annotiations, voice
annotations, sketches, etc.
•

Image sheets can only be created in the Library view. They can be
viewed in the Report view, but not modified.
• You can work on several reports at the same time.
• You can mix templates in the same report.
•

The Camera tab will only become visible when a camera in UVC mode
is connected to the computer.
• Images saved in live streaming mode will be saved on the PC.

You can use FLIR Tools Mobile as a remote control for your thermal
camera. Use the Help menu, if needed.

Connect the camera to a Wi-Fi network:
• To connect to an iPhone/iPad, set WiFi on Connect device.
• To connect to an android device, set WiFi on
Connect to WLAN. ¨
In FLIR Tools Mobile, tap the Import button and select Camera. FLIR Tools

Mobile will now detect any infrared cameras that are available on the Wi-Fi
network and display the last digits of their S/N.
Follow the on-screen instructions. ¨
Focus the camera: tap the up or down button in the left toolbar. ¨
Autofocus the camera: tap the AF button in the left toolbar. ¨
