One thing that I would look to change would be who we targeted.

As our project focused on looking

at and replicating methods already in place it may have been better to approach each of the District
Health Boards separately with the proposed plans and then separately contact the representatives
for health in each of the two major parties in regards to funding and increasing
doctors/nurses/psychologist. This is due to each DHB having to organise the programs in each of
their regions anyway, where as the primary way central government could help would be in the
funding of those programs as well as creating ways to increase intake into education regarding the
professions involved. Following this we would need to contact those in charge of the education of
doctors/nurses/psychologists to help increase their numbers to fill the new positions needed.

In regards to my preferences to team work, I think having some sort of messaging system that has a
more immediate notification method, whether that is something like a direct messenger or using an
app like Trello, would be extremely beneficiary. However as part of this, the system being used
would also need the capability to send documents. In past group work we have used Facebook
messenger. This was particularly helpful as you could transfer documents as well as immediately see
when someone was posing questions to the group, it also made it easy to go back into the chat and
find particular conversations if you were not immediately available to reply when it was sent. I think
my biggest weakness for collaboration was my sleeping pattern (particularly late in the semester)
being out of whack and so making it difficult to attend morning meetings.

One skill that I think I have developed that would be helpful to an employee would be my ability to
estimate who/what would be affected by potential decisions/actions, and how wide spread that
could go. ie. If person A is affected, then that would also affect person C and B. I think this skill would
be helpful in creating decisions that don’t cause unintentional negative impacts in other areas. My
advice for someone starting in one of these fields would be to start small and then work your way
up. As in my experience this semester by starting with a broad idea it made it extremely difficult to
come up with a plan that would apply to everyone (especially if you have little to no knowledge in
that particular area). As such if we’d started on a smaller scale we’d have had less stakeholders to
account for and so would have had less that could have posed a potential concern. Also make sure
to take the time to account for everyone who would be impacted by your propositions and come up
with potential solutions for each of these problems, as if you don’t account for something then that
may be enough for those who would give the green light on your project to say no to it.
