Name of the Experiment: DYNAMIC

Objective: Study of Newton’s 2nd Law (∑F=m.a), and we will explore the relationship between
position, velocity and acceleration in this lab.

The equipment: Compressor, Air table, Disk of air table, Spark engine, Carbon paper, Ruler, foot
switch

Theory: We will investigate Newton’s second law and constant acceleration with the air table in the
acceleration shown in lab. The happing mass, m, will pull the puck across the table as it falls. The
mass of the pick is M. The string connecting the harrying mass and puck has a tension, T. We assume
there is no friction between the table and the puck
the force on the puck is simply tension. Assuming no friction, Newton’s 2nd Law gives
Force=T-m.g=m*(-a)

Conclusion: In the constant acceleration part of the experiment, if the initial velocity is not zero, ߡx
would change, so the final results change too. There may be some friction between the puck and air
table. If we assuming the friction are constant, acceleration can change but acceleration is constant.
We neglected the friction and measuring instruments may not be sensitive enough, so we found %31
errors.
