Exam Information Continued
 Exam Description
– The Implementing Cisco Unified Communications Voice over IP and QoS v8.0
(CVOICE v8.0) 642-437 is the exam associated with the CCNP Voice certification. This
exam tests a candidate's knowledge of how to implement and operate gateways,
gatekeepers, Cisco Unified Border Element, Cisco Unified Communications Manager
Express and QoS in a voice network architecture. Candidates can prepare for this
exam by taking the CVOICE v8.0 Implementing Cisco Unified Communications Voice
over IP and QoS v8.0 (CVOICE v8.0) 642-437 course.
 Exam Topics
– The following information provides general guidelines for the content likely to be
included on the 642-437 CVOICE v8.0 exam. However, other related topics may also

Best Practice Study Methodology
How to Study
 Save a copy of the blueprint in your notes application or print a copy
 This will serve as your primary reference and will be used to track progress
 Identify areas of strength and weakness in relation to each heading
 Then, identify based on individual topic
 Be Honest with yourself
 How to determine strengths:
 Can you describe the topic to another person well enough to teach it to them?
 Practice by writing down a description of the topic and giving to a peer for review. You will
find out quickly which topics you really know. In addition, the act of describing a topic in your
own words provides a more solid foundation for remembering the information

Create a Study Outline

 Using the blueprint as a reference, create a study outline:

 Emphasis should be placed on the topics that you have weakness in
 For each topic, use the following best practice of a 4 step approach:
 Read/Research the topic
 There are many resources available for reading information on the topics:
 Cisco Press Books, Cisco Website Documentation including SRNDs, RFCs, Study Blogs
 Take notes
 Practice the topic
 Use a lab environment to practice the knowledge you
have learned. Practice use of the knowledge will
quickly solidify your understanding of the topic
 Describe the topic in your own words
 Mark each topic using four colors for each step

Taking Notes

 Find a method that works for you

 There is no one solution that works for everyone
 Most common options:
 Paper
 Have to keep organized. A binder or notebook is key
 Computer/Tablet
 Many note taking Apps. Basics such as Notepad, Text edit, advanced
such as Microsoft OneNote and Evernote
 Using a Tablet with a stylus works great for some
 MindMap software

 Ensure whatever option you chose, you can easily go

back and add further detail to any section, and can
quickly reference whenever needed

Practicing Topics/Technologies
 Hands on practice through IOS on a router is absolutely recommended
 Become familiar with configuration of voice related IOS commands
 Ensure the router you are using supports a Voice Feature Set for Cisco
Unified Communications Manager Express version 8
 Test your memory for configurations in notepad, then paste into a router to
ensure correct syntax
