Job purpose:
The post holder will have a key role in the specification, development, maintenance and
training of the Institute’s Information Systems. The Institute has 4 main systems:
Student, Finance, Library and HR.
Main responsibilities:
• To further develop a suite of dynamic reports and statistics using reporting tools
Business Objects and MS Reporting Services
• To manage sub-projects within MIS under the guidance of the MIS Manager
• To liaise with staff on all levels to ensure stability of the Information Systems
• To provide technical expertise, working closely with ITCS to ensure the integrity
of the Systems
• To observe equality and diversity and health and safety practices and procedures
and promote equal opportunities at all times
Knowledge
• Experience in SQL in an SQL Server/Oracle Database
environment Essential
• Microsoft Access Experience Essential
• Experience working with relational databases Essential
• Excellent general IT skills Essential
• Experience in working within Higher Education sector Desirable
• Experience of training users in use of IT systems Desirable
• Knowledge of student records systems, preferably SITS Desirable
• Programming experience (Visual Basic .Net / C#) Desirable
• Experience in using reporting tools Business Objects and
MS Reporting Services Desirable

Qualifications
• Degree level or equivalent with an IT related
Academic Qualification: HND/Degree or equivalent qualification
in Computer Science, or related subject. Or a MCP Qualification. Essential
Dimensions:
The Arts University College at Bournemouth has seen significant growth in its student
numbers since entering the Higher Education sector in 2000 as the Arts Institute. Since
then our student numbers have doubled with a commensurate increase in income.
University College status was gained in 2009.
As a key member of the MIS team, the role holder will ensure that the continuous
introduction of software is introduced expeditiously, with subsequent Training of Users,
and Management Reporting being developed. Developments include further expansion
of the student record system SITS and the HR system.

o System Users: this includes expert users of the specific systems, regular
but non-specialist users, and those whose use or knowledge of the
system is extremely limited. This group may include senior and middle
managers who have a particular need or interest

o Systems Consultants and Trainers
o Peers in other higher education institutions, through formal or informal
networks
Challenges:
To review, co-ordinate and implement changes to the existing Information Systems and
to participate in the identification, specification and implementation of new systems.
