Our Story
Back in early 2015, our founder Abbie started a social project with the help of Agensi
Inovasi Malaysia (AIM) with an intention to help the people of her own native
communities in Kuching, Sarawak. Today, it turned out to be a social enterprise that
focuses on empowering more rural communities in Sarawak, especially the younger
generation, to earn better income through tourism.

We want to do more than just providing tours like everyone else; it is about balancing
income from organizing tours and giving back to the communities. Here, we design
community-based tours with the local communities to give travellers a chance to
experience the local flavor like never before. From jungle trekking through the Borneo
rain forest, cooking with the local hosts, to spending the night in a village house,
Backyard Tour promises truly authentic experience with the real born-and-bred-there
villagers for you to experience.

from each village is our VIP.

They, not Backyard Tour, own and operate the tour packages. We believe in treating
our partners with respect and dignity by giving them the ownership and control over
the tour packages.
