A green space industry person in British

Columbia asks us to stop giving money to
Canadian Cancer Society (C.C.S.).

Dear Force of Nature

Thought you may be interested to know that Mae Burrows, one

of our favourite activists, was paid $10,000.00 by the C.C.S. to
put together 6 forums across BC. They included presentations
by herself, Dr. Warren Bell and Katherine Sealy. That was in
2007 and one of the stops was at Thompson Rivers University,
here in Kamloops. My husband and I attended, and my
husband left 1/2 way through as he could not stand to listen to
the lies they were peddling.

Also Warren Bell was given $1,000.00 for his part in these
ridiculous productions. This all took place before Burrows
and Bell became directors for the C.C.S. I have no idea how
much they are being paid now, it would be an interesting piece
of info to find out.

This email was sent to one of our friends after he requested a

report on the disbursement of funds going to Bell and Burrows.
This person has been pushing the C.C.S. on their position with
regards to cosmetic pesticides, he is my source. It took several
requests as they kept sending back fluffy emails and just
beating around the bush, so to speak. The email I forwarded
was what was finally sent out and confirmed what we had
suspected. Yes, the C.C.S. is funding activists ! The author of
the email, Allan Mugford, works for the C.C.S. as the manager
of finance, and they must release this information when
requested. Go ahead and use his name Nowhere on the email
was it suggested that is was a private document.

We would like pressure to be put on the C.C.S. The more

people are aware of what they are up to the better.

Thought you might enjoy that little piece of info. Also, please
encourage people to stop donating to the C.C.S. ! Donations
to C.C.S. are helping to push the green space industry into
oblivion.

Since 2007, the Canadian Cancer Society, Toxic Free Canada,

and the Canadian Association of Physicians for the
Environment have been working together to build public and
decision–maker awareness about the adverse environmental
and health impacts of cosmetic pesticide use, and advocating
to municipal and provincial governments to pass legislation,
phasing out the cosmetic use of pesticides.

Prior to becoming Board Members, we disbursed the following

amounts, for the following purposes :

> Mae Burrows, of Toxic Free Canada (then Labour

Environmental Alliance Society) : A $10,000 grant to
organize 7 public forums to educate and engage the public
about the value of education and bylaws in order to restrict
the cosmetic use of pesticides.

> Warren Bell, of Canadian Association of Physicians for the

Environment : $1,000 in honorariums to attend a number of
cosmetic pesticide forum speaking engagements.

series of e–newsletters destined for the GREEN SPACE INDUSTRY, the ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT,
politicians, municipalities, and the media, nation–wide across Canada, and parts of the United States.
FORCE OF NATURE is produced in two parts. First. The MEDIA REPORT itself that reports on the current
events affecting the future of the GREEN SPACE INDUSTRY.. Second. INDEPENDENT PERSPECTIVE., which
is a running commentary, sometimes also of a more technical in nature.

William H. Gathercole holds a degree in Horticulture from the UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH, and another pure and
applied science degree from MCGILL UNIVERSITY. He has worked in virtually all aspects of the GREEN
SPACE INDUSTRY, including public affairs, personal safety, and environmental issues. Mr. Gathercole has
been a consultant and instructor for decades. Mr. Gathercole has been following the evolution of
ENVIRONMENTAL TERRORISM for over a quarter–century. His involvement in environmental issues reached a
fevered pitch in the 1990s, when he orchestrated, with others, legal action against unethical and excessive
municipal regulations restricting the use of pest control products. ( i.e. the Town of Hudson. ) Although he
can be accused of being ANTI–ENVIRONMENT–MOVEMENT, he is, in fact, simply a strong advocate for the
GREEN SPACE INDUSTRY. However, this position has not precluded him from criticizing the industry itself.
Nonetheless, his vast knowledge of our long journey with environmental issues is U N D E N IAB LE . ( Hopeful-
ly ! ) For many years, Mr. Gathercole has been a contributing columnist for T URF & RECREATION
Magazine, Canada’s Turf and Grounds Maintenance Authority.
