High School Algebra 2

2017/18 Syllabus
Textbook
Core Connections Algebra 2 – a book will be issued for use in class and a second copy will be provided for use at
home.

Grading
Your semester grade is made up of the following components:
 55% Chapter Tests
 40% Daily Homework and Quizzes
 5% Participation

Daily Homework & Quizzes

Homework will be assigned most nights and will consist of 5-10 problems. Homework is due at 8:45 a.m. the
next day that class meets and should be completed in the student’s math spiral. Most homework assignments
will be graded and returned the same day. For each assignment, 1 or 2 problems will be selected as a
homework quiz worth 2 points. The remaining problems will be checked for completion status and are worth a
total of 4 points (Students are expected to write the problem and show their work in their math homework
notebook). All homework problems will be reviewed at the beginning of class and students are expected to
note the correct answer and rework the problems on their own time.
Late homework is accepted but will be worth a maximum of 50% if received by the following day. Homework
received after 8:45 a.m. is considered late. Credit for homework quizzes will not be given if late homework is
turned in after the quiz has been graded reviewed in class.
Note: Students will lose points if they do not write their assignment in their assignment log or if assignment log
is lost.

Chapter Tests
Generally, you can expect to have a test at the end of each chapter. Missed problems on test can be corrected
and returned for half credit on the first 2 test only. Corrections are typically due one week after the graded
exam is returned to the student.

Calculators
University School provides graphing calculators for use in class. Students do not need a graphing calculator for
use at home, but should have a scientific calculator, ruler and colored pencils for completing assignments at
home.
Other options include using DESMOS web-based graphing calculators https://www.desmos.com/calculator.
