2010 Ride 2 Recovery Fundraiser

Have dinner at Applebees and raise money for injured military
Alameda, CA August 27th, 2010 – Debi Palmer and Matthew Harris invite you to participate in a
fundraiser to support injured military by dining at Applebees restaurant at 2263 S. Shore Center in
Alameda between 4 PM – 9 PM on Monday, September 20th.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise funds for the 3rd annual Ride 2 Recovery (R2R) Golden State
Challenge Event starting on October 3rd. Ten percent of the proceeds from your meal will be donated to
the R2R.
The R2R is a program of the Fitness Challenge Foundation. It is a seven day rehabilitation and
fundraising ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles via Highway 1. The goal is to raise money to
support Spinning® Recovery Labs and cycling programs at military and Veterans Affairs (VA)
locations around the U.S. to help injured military in their recovery.
Funds raised are used to buy specialized equipment, modify bicycles to accommodate injuries and
provide programs that feature cycling as the core activity. Cycling has been found to be instrumental in
rehabilitation because it is an activity that almost all patients with mental and physical disabilities can
participate in and it helps speed up the recovery process.
Matthew is a PhD candidate specializing in neuropsychology and enjoys cycling. He is the son of a
military pilot who died in a plane crash, and his brother recently completed service in the military. Debi
is a noncombat veteran and a brain injury survivor, and can attest to the therapeutic effects of cycling.
Matthew Harris and Debi Palmer met while serving on the Brain Injury Connection (BIC) Board of
Directors and their connection with the military and their understanding of the physical and mental
benefits of cycling are their motivation to raise funds and participate in this awe-inspiring program.
Please come dine at the Applebees in Alameda at 2263 S. Shore Center in the Alameda Towne Centre
between Kohls and Trader Joes on Monday, September 20th. Don’t forget to bring your flyer; 10% of
the proceeds from your meal will be donated to this special cause!
