Classroom Management

Plan
Morning Routine:
● Students will enter the classroom and have to greet me with one of the H’s. Which are
handshake, high-five, hello, or a hug.
● Hand notes to teacher.
● Hang up coats and bookbags.
● Hand in homework to homework bin/home folder.
● Make a lunch choice.
○ Lunch options will be on the smartboard and students will move their name to
their lunch of choice.
● Sharpen two pencils.
● Greet your classmates.
● Check cubby books.
● Bathroom break
● Start Morning work.
○ Students will be provided morning work that is aligned to a standard and will be a
problem or two to solve each morning. Some students will get done before others
and they will read an independant book till I give the signal that we are ready to
start the day.
● Morning checklist will look something like this one.
Agenda for the Day:
● The agenda for each day will be visual posted on the board where students can look
whenever they need to. It will look something like this.

How to get students attention:

● To get students attention I will use callbacks. When I say one of the call backs students
will hear it and respond with the appropriate callback. They will know this is when they
should quiet down and listen up to hear instructions. Here are some call backs I will use.

Bathroom Breaks and Drinks:
● Students will be aloud to have water bottles at their desks. But they will be only clear
bottles and only aloud to have water in them. We will go over the rules of using water
bottles in the class. Students will keep water bottles on the floor and only can pick them
up to take a quick drink and set it back down.
● Bathroom breaks will be scheduled in to our schedule. If a students needs to go during
class they will ask and take the bathroom pass to go to the bathroom. There will be two
boy passes and two girl passes. It will be made clear that we will only use these passes
when it is an emergency. If it can wait until we go for our class break then wait but if it
can not they will be aloud to go.
What to do when a pencil breaks:
● Students should have two sharp pencils at the start of everyday. If both those pencils are
broke and they need a sharp pencil there will be a cup where they can grab a sharp
pencil but will need to return that pencil when they have a chance to sharpen their own
pencils.
How school supplies will be handled:
● Students each will have their own supplies. I will have some pencils they can use if they
forget to sharpen theirs but they have to return those pencils when finished with them
and have their pencils sharpened. They will put their name stick into the cup when they
take a pencil out of the cup. All other supplies will be their own, there will not be any
community supplies.
How to collect papers:
● Papers will be handed in with bins. There will be a bin for each subject, for example
homework, reading, math, writing, science, and social studies. Students will hand in
papers to the appropriate bins.
What students do when they finish work early:
● When finished early students will take a book from their book box out and read silently.
The more reading getting done the better!!
Where to find make up work:
● Students will be able to find their makeup work in their mail boxes. When students are
gone I will gather their work and put it in their mail box so it is in their at the start of the
next day. This is also where they will find any notes they need to and paper to take
home.
Eating and drinking in class:
● Students will only be aloud water in the classroom. They are not aloud to eat unless it is
during snack time where the snack is provided from the community snacks the students
will bring at the beginning of the year.
Classroom Jobs:
● Each day 4 students will have a classroom job and will rotate so every student gets a
chance at each of these jobs. The jobs will be:
○ My supply of pencils pencil sharpener: will sharpen all pencils of mine that need
to be sharpened in case a students may need one.
○ Teacher assistant: will help me throughout the day with little jobs i may need.
Such as turning off the lights, running something down to the office, or handing
out papers, etc.
○ Class library book monitor: Will check the books in the class library in the
morning and at the end of the day to make sure they are organized and neat
looking. No books on the ground or in the wrong places.
○ Line Leader: Student will be in the front of the line during the day wherever we
may walk to that day.
Unfinished Class Assignments:
● When a student has an unfinished class assignment they will put that assignment in the
work in progress box and will finish this work at recess.
Expectations/Rules:
● We will use inside voices and walking feet in the classroom.
● We will raise our hands to take turns in the classroom.
● We will use good manners like, “Please” and “Thank you”.
● We will follow directions when they are first given.
● We will be respectful when others are talking.
These rules and expectations will be communicated to parents through a video the students will
make about rules and expectations and what they look like and don’t look like.
