Source: IHS-ODS Petrodata – March 2012 – Ultra-deepwater includes competitive semisubmersibles and drillships able to drill in 7,500’ and greater water depths including rigs that are cold stacked. Average
age excludes rigs under construction or on order. Ensco has one ultra-deepwater semi and one drillship under construction.

Ultra-Deepwater Drillship Advantages
• Current 6th generation drillships offer capacity and cost advantages for
extreme deepwater – mild environment
• Majority of the world’s deepwater basins are mild environment: West
Africa, Brazil, US Gulf of Mexico, etc.
• Drillships are the most cost effective way to provide clients best-in-class
rigs for these areas. Drillships excel in these areas due to:
– Large deck space and variable load capability - reduces logistical challenges
– Large storage capacities for drilling fluids, bulk material, casing and drill pipe
– Large 200 pob crew facilities – required for complex field developments
– Ability to transit faster area to area and quickly move away from severe
weather
– Heavy duty drilling systems – hoisting, pumping, rotating + offline casing and
drillpipe
• Our partnership with a shipyard with proven track record and design
resulted in a low risk of delayed delivery or cost overruns

7,500 psi mud pumps, Rotating – dual motor high torque top drive
• 60 x 80 ft dual derrick: large fingerboard capacity: 40,000 ft drillpipe, 10,000 ft.
landing string, client casing
• Conventional drawworks with crown mounted motion compensator
• Large 75-1/2” diameter main rotary table for enhanced ability to operate in high
currents
• Exceptional fluid systems: 6,000 bbls active + 9,000 bbls reserve mud, 7,000 bbls
reserve brine
• High capacity and reliability power generation and dynamic positioning systems
• BOP stack: 15,000 psi with six rams/two annulars, backup acoustic controls,
autoshear and EDS
• Large deck space and accommodations - very useful for our clients’ highly
demanding field development programs – heavy emphasis on 3rd party space,
POB, well test facilities, dual ROVs
• Industry-proven design in very high demand from our customers

DP3 Series Drillships
Unique Aspects of the Samsung GF12000 Class Drillship:
• Ultra-heavy duty: Hoisting -1,250 tons, Pumping - 4 ea. 7,500 psi pumps (upgradable to 6).
• Enhanced fingerboard capacity and redundancy
• Heave compensated drawworks – main and auxiliary – eliminates crown mounted compensators
• Ready for development drilling, completions, and subsea construction
– Improved client and 3rd party offices and spaces complete with utilities pre-installed
– Triple fluid system for rapid and efficient switching between drilling mud and completions brine
– Enhanced tree handling capabilities – 13m clear height
– Active heave compensated subsea crane – up to 100-ton loads to 10,000-ft water depth
– Larger well testing area, complete with utilities and burner boom
– Improved environmental containment: drain systems, ballast water, grey water, zero discharge
– Capable of storing/handling two BOP stacks, outfitted with single 6 ram stack, upgradable to 7
– In hull riser storage: larger deck space, enhanced pipe storage capacity and improved motions
• Retractable thrusters – greatly reduced out-of-service maintenance and access to ports
• Reduced fuel consumption – 10% overall and 40% less in transit
• Improved ergonomics – low noise criteria, all 1- and 2-person cabins with beds down
