I.

INTRODUCTION AND SUMMARY

This topic focuses on the definition of airlines and the history of aviation. It includes the
famous persons who got involved in the making of pioneer aircrafts. It also includes the
timeline of airline industry here in the Philippines. It enumerated different services offered
by the airlines.
There are two types of airlines: international and local. International airlines offer
flights where the departure and the arrical takes place in different countries while local
airlines offer flights that takes place in the same country. As time passes, technologies have
been developed to improve the services provided by the airlines. Some of these
technologies are present today.

II. DEFINITION OF TERMS

1. AIRLINE- a company that utilizes aircrafts to provide air transport services for travelling
passengers and freight
2. AIRMAIL- the transport of mail by air
3. INTERNATIONAL AIRLINE- offers forms of commercial flights within civil aviation where
the departure and the arrival takes place in different countries
4. DOMESTIC OR LOCAL AIRLINE- offers forms of commercial flight within civil aviation
where the departure and the arrival take place in the same country.
5. INTERNET- this technology allows electronic devices to communicate with one another
without the need of a host computer
6. PRESCRIPTIVE MAINTENANCE LOOMS- an analytical method that not only determines
possible revenues, but also chooses the best course of action based on the desired outcome
7. Drone- a technology that allows professionals to visually identify areas in need of
services without physical inspection
8. Augmented Reality- the use of this technology is to superimpose virtual elements in the
real world
9. Lean Manufacturing- increases value through processes that eliminate or greatly
diminish waste
10. Beacon Technology- this technology provides better customised services to passengers
as they travel through the airport terminal
11. Blackbox- helps investigators learn why a plane crashed, but how that information can
be applied to other aircraft to prevent a repeat
12. Radar- helps air traffic controllers locate and track planes up to 200 miles away
13. Winglets- small upward- pointing extensions at the tips of aircraft wings reduce drag,
improve climb performance, increase range, and make flight more fuel efficient
14. Stealth aircraft- a plane that can outsmart radar because its surfaces are designed to
absorb radio waves or reflect them away from the receiver
15. Jetway- a long covered walkway that connects our departure gate with our plane
