Hazards

A hazard is an agent which has the potential to cause harm to a vulnerable target.
The terms "hazard" and "risk" are often used interchangeably. However, in terms of
risk assessment, these are two very distinct terms. A hazard is any agent that can
cause harm or damage to humans, property, or the environment. Risk is defined as
the probability that exposure to a hazard will lead to a negative consequence, or
more simply, a hazard poses no risk if there is no exposure to that hazard.

Disaster
A disaster is a serious disruption, occurring over a relatively short time, of the
functioning of a community or a society involving widespread human, material,
economic or environmental loss and impacts, which exceeds the ability of the
affected community or society to cope using its own resources.
Ex : Hurricane, volcano, tsunami, earthquake

Disaster Risk
Disaster risk reduction (DRR) is a systematic approach to identifying, assessing
and reducing the risks of disaster. It aims to reduce socio-economic
vulnerabilities to disaster as well as dealing with the environmental and other
hazards that trigger them.

Natural disaster
A natural disaster is a major adverse event resulting from natural processes of
the Earth; examples include floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions,
earthquakes, tsunamis, and other geologic processes. A natural disaster can cause
loss of life or property damage.

Man made disaster

A disastrous event caused directly and principally by one or more identifiable
deliberate or negligent human actions. Also called human-made disaster.
