Vision

For all children at CTMS to have authentic learning experiences in

health and movement related contexts to explore and understand
personal health and wellbeing and that of other people, and of society.

CTMS Health and Physical Education Links to the New Zealand Curriculum

At CTMS we believe that the essence of the Health and Physical Education is the child’s own self wellbeing, the wellbeing
of others and the wellbeing of our natural environment. At CTMS we aim to provide learning opportunities through health
related and movement contexts to promote safe and healthy participation in school and community life. Further to this, we
aim to develop ethical thinking and decision making practices, and take collective action to preserve our natural
environments and safeguard these environments for future generations.
Aims

 For CTMS staff to work collaboratively and be equally responsible for the health and wellbeing of every student in the school.
 To focus learning and development opportunities to teach self-confidence, leadership skills, teamwork and group co-operation.
 To create an environment where there are opportunities for staff and students to collaborate and share decision making processes and where student
thinking forms an integral part of the generated programmes, activities and projects in our School Agreement, Schoolgen, and Enviro’ schools programmes.
 To provide experiences through the Sports, Visual Arts, Music, Languages, and EOTC programmes, that encourages students to realise their own intellectual,
social, physical and creative potential.
 To provide learning opportunities through our School Agreement that will allow students to reflect on the nature of wellbeing and to develop skills and
attitudes that will support them to increasingly manage their own behaviour and to accept greater responsibility for themselves, their learning and their
personal achievements.
 To provide learning opportunities through the Enviro’schools, Schoolgen, and EOTC programmes, that allow students to see the relationship between self,
other and society and their personal responsibilities to respect, care and contribute to the well-being of others, and their surrounding environments.
 To provide learning experiences within Schoolgen, Enviro’schools, and our School Agreement that will allow students to take personal and collective action in
maintaining and developing our school environment and our wider Wellington environments.
 To offer a balanced programme of all the four conceptual strands over a two year timeframe (Personal Health & Physical Development, Movement Concepts &
Motor Skills, Relationships with Other People, Healthy Communities & Environments).
 To enhance bicultural understanding through curriculum practices such as morning hui and programmes such as fitness, sport, technology, music, singing etc.
that support and develop tuakana/teina working relationships across the school.
 To allow students opportunities to recognize and make learning links between their own cultural understanding of wellbeing and ‘Hauora’, the Maori cultural
understanding of wellbeing. To recognize similar holistic connections of well being applied in Maori culture may also be evident in their own culture. These
health areas include; Te Taha Hinengaro (psychological health), Te Taha Wairua (spiritual health), Te Taha Tinana (physical health) and Te Taha Whanau
(family health).
 To regularly consult with our school community and develop programmes and practices that reflect the needs, interests and skills parents/caregivers identify
as important for their children to possess in order to effectively engage with and prepare for their present and future environments.
Goals for Students

 Develop tuakana/teina relationships of respect, care, and empathy, across homegroups and age groups through schoolwide programmes such as; fitness,
sport, technology, and the arts.

participate in a range of sport activities both at school, across schools (i.e. inter-school sports) and in wider community sport groups.
