Preface
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Bismilla, Alhamdulillah wasalatu wasalamu YaRasulullah. The Holy Quran is the "literal"
word of Allah. And we have been given the Quran to read it, internalize it and use it as a
Guide.
By the grace of Allah the Islamic Studies Department of Dubai Gem School is pleased to
present the Quran Workbook. The book will help the students to recite the verses of
the Quran with proper Tajweed, as the first step is reciting the Quran; students need to
have basic knowledge of Tajweed rules and its application. The book has several surahs
(suwar) from the Holy Quran, Hadeeth and Duas. It also has some rules of Tajweed and
practice exercises for Arabic letters and Tajweed. The Quran workbook has been
compiled by the Islamic Studies Department of Dubai Gem Private School after due
research and feedback from the students, teachers and parents. It is an ongoing effort
to impart and improve the quality of education.
All praise is to Allah for providing us with the resources that has enabled us to complete
the workbook. This is an ongoing project, and it is our sincere hope that it will impact
our students at DGPS. We would like to thank the Principal of DGPS, Ms.Humera for her

‫الر ْح َٰم ِن ه‬
)1(‫الر ِحيم‬ ‫َّللاِ ه‬‫ِب ْس ِم ه‬
All praise is for Allah, lord of the )2( ‫ب ْالعال ِمين‬
ِ ‫ْالح ْمدُ ِ هّلِلِ ر‬
worlds.
The most Kind, The most Merciful. )3( ‫الر ِح ِيم‬‫الر ْح َٰم ِن ه‬
‫ه‬
King of the Day of Judgment. )4( ‫ِين‬ِ ‫ما ِل ِك ي ْو ِم الد‬
It is you we worship and You we )5( ‫ين‬ ُ ‫ِإيهاك ن ْعبُدُ و ِإيهاك ن ْست ِع‬
ask for help.
Guide us to the straight path. )6( ‫الصراط ْال ُم ْست ِقيم‬ ِ ‫ا ْهدِنا‬
The path of those You have ‫صراط الهذِين أ ْنع ْمت عل ْي ِه ْم‬ ِ
blessed, not those who have
deserved your anger and those ‫ب عل ْي ِه ْم ول‬ ِ ‫ضو‬ ُ ‫غي ِْر ْالم ْغ‬
who have gone astray. (7( ‫ض ِالين‬ ‫ال ه‬
Surat Al Fatihah, “the Opening”it is recited by Muslims in their daily
prayer and it was revealed in Makkah.
Surat al Fatihah is the greatest Surah in the Holy Quran.

Surat Al-Falaq “Daybreak" ‫سورة الفلق‬
‫ِب ْس ِم َّللاِ الر ْح َم ِن الر ِح ِيم‬
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of ِ ‫ب ْالفل‬

when he envies."
Surat An-Nas "Mankind" ‫سورة الناس‬

Say, "I seek refuge in the ِ ‫عوذُ ِبر‬
ِ ‫ب النه‬

Lord of mankind,
The king of mankind. )2( ‫اس‬ ِ ‫م ِل ِك النه‬

retreating whisperer -

From among the jinn and ِ ‫ِمن ْال ِجنه ِة والنه‬

Surat Al-Masad "The Palm Fiber" ‫سورة المسد‬
‫بِ ْس ِم َّللاِ الر ْح َم ِن الر ِح ِيم‬
May the hands of Abu Lahab be ٍ ‫ت يَ َدا أَبِي لَ َه‬
)1( ‫ب َوتَب‬ ْ ‫تَب‬
ruined, and ruined is he.
His wealth (money) will not be )2( ‫ب‬ َ ‫َما أ َ ْغنَى َع ْنهُ َمالُهُ َو َما َك‬

useful for him or which he gained.
He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of ٍ ‫ات لَ َه‬

[twisted] plam fiber.
Surat Al Masad is about Prophet Muhammad’s uncle “Abu

Labab” who was an enemy of Islam.

Qalqalah‫القلقلة‬
Qalqalah means Echo or shaking, and it’s the disturbance of the
letter, it happens at the end of the pronunciation of the letter.
Qalqalah only pronounced when the letters have Sukoun( ْْ )

or at a stop point (at the end of the Ayah).

Ghunnah " ‫"الغنة‬
Ghunnah is a nasal pressing sound that is emitted

from the nose without any function of the tongue.
ِّ ) and (‫ ) ِّم‬Mushddatin.
Ghunnah comes with (‫ن‬
While reciting Quran, we have to prolong/ stress
the Sound of (ّ‫ )ن‬and(ّ‫ )م‬to apply Ghunnah.

Looking at the Mirror
When you look in the mirror and see that Allah has given you a good
face and body you must say the following Dua:
َ ‫س ْن خ َْل ِقي َك َما َحس ْن‬

"‫ت ُخلُ ِقي‬ ِّ ِ ‫"الل ُهم َح‬
It means “Oh Allah, give me good manners as you have

given me a perfect body”
When you see something beautiful or great Allah made for us you
must say:

“Subhan Allah”

‫ما شاء هللا ال قُوةَ إال باهلل‬

feeding of the poor.

Those whodo good to be seen by )6( ‫الهذِين ُه ْم يُرا ُءون‬

And withhold small kindnesses )7(‫عون‬ ُ ‫وي ْمنعُون ْالما‬
Surat Al Maoun is concerned with two of the core teachings of

Islam, prayer and charity.
Surat Al Maoun was revealed in Makkah.

Surat Quraysh "The Quraysh" ‫سورة قريش‬
For the covenants [of security and )1( ‫ف قُري ٍْش‬

safeguard enjoyed] by the Quraish,

Surat al-Feel “The Elephant” ‫سورة الفيل‬
Have you not considered, [O ‫أل ْم تر كيْف فعل ربُّك‬
Muhammad], how your Lord dealt with
the people of the elephant? )1( ‫ب ْال ِفي ِل‬ ِ ‫صحا‬ ْ ‫ِبأ‬
Did He not ruin their plan? ‫أل ْم ي ْجع ْل كيْد ُه ْم فِي‬

And He sent against them birds in flocks. ‫وأ ْرسل عل ْي ِه ْم طي ًْرا أبا ِبيل‬

And He made them like eaten straw. ٍ‫صف‬ ْ ‫فجعل ُه ْم كع‬

Surat Al Feel talks about the"Army of the Elephant" which was
