About the Department
Baby John Memorial Government College, Chavara is established on
26th August 1981 by the Kerala state government and is affiliated to the
University of Kerala. Department of Mathematics is one of the major
departments of the college and has 8 faculty members. The department
offers one undergraduate and one postgraduate course.

About the Workshop
By conducting this workshop, we are aiming to introduce the new trend
of Teaching – Learning and Typing to the academia. The workshop will
hopefully be an enlightening one with the presence of some eminent re-
source persons who have made rich contribution to the subject. They will
be sharing their wisdom and experience with us. We invite and request
you to make the occasion an electrifying one by your active participation
and discussions. The workshop is on the following two topics:
1. LATEXTraining: Introduction to the software LATEX; basic tools
in LATEX; overview of various document classes; controlling fonts;
preparing tables; type-setting math equations and various math
packages; Theorem, example, notes, and various other environ-
ments; inserting figures; mini pages – page inside pages, boxes,
placing text at arbitrary places, preparing a full article with bib-
liography.

2. MOODLE Training: Online learning allows students to en-
gage in learning process outside the classroom. It is found to
be a highly effective method for distant learning. KeralaMOOCs
(http://www.keralamoocs.org) is a MOODLE based online plat-
form, an initiative inspired from FLAIR. This open online platform
offers online courses to anyone who wants to learn and teach. Ker-
ala MOOCs is established to provide free world class education for
anyone anywhere. The motto is “Enjoy Teaching, Love Learning,
Help others”. The KeralaMOOCs will act as supplement to the ex-
isting university course teaching with elearning material. It provides
students to get both on-campus and online learning experience.

Registration
We invite teachers, research scholars and students of any discipline from
government, aided, unaided colleges and academic institutions. There is
no registration fee for any participants. The participation in the work-
shop can be confirmed by sending an email to krishna.math@gmail.com
on or before 14/12/2016.
Teacher participants will be eligible for duty leave for participat-
ing in the workshop under Rule 12(1)(iii) of Part I KSR (G.O.(MS)
No:200/2009/H.Edn. Dated 12.11.2009). .
